Lost Data My sansa clip had at least 320 songs on it. When i put the songs on it i usually used machines with windows xp. A few days ago i connected it to my friends macbook.  When i looked at the song list, it only had 107 songs on it.  When i tried looking for the other songs they were nowhere to be found.  When i disconnected from the macbook, the clip said it was full and i needed to give it 4 mb of memory for it to play.  Then I connected again to the macbook to put the 107 songs in another folder. It said the clip only had 500mb left of memory; or pretty much all the songs i took out. When i disconnected the clip and looked at the songs it was empty. Finnaly i connected to a machine with windows and looked for the data and it was gone, the thing is the clip still says that 1.3 gigs is being used up but theres no songs...i dunno what to do now....everything was fine before i connected the clip to the macbook. what happened and what can i do?

    >>>When i disconnected from the macbook, the clip said it was full >>>and i needed to give it 4 mb of memory for it to play.

What was the exact message that was displayed on the Clip at this point?

My first theory is that when you connected the Clip to the macbook, something happened that corrupted the data on the clip, and repeated connections continued to re-corrupt the already corrupted data. I need more information, though. Let's start with the above.

Hello,

Restoring your player can be done in 2 main steps:
>>1. For updating the firmware, the player should be switched to MSC mode.
This could be done through the menu. When not knowing what the display shows, use the forcing method in next link:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61/sno/0
See the Sansa Clip steps below:
1. Turn device OFF.
2. Slide the Hold switch down to Lock (orange color showing).
3. Press and hold the center button while connecting the device to the PC.
<<

>> 2. Once connected in MSC mode you can use the firmware updater when having Windows operating system, see next page:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/300/kw/firmware%20updater/r_id/101834
<<

For others who have MAC or Linux operating system you can not use the firmware updater: firmware should be manually downloaded from Sansa Forums and installed afterwards:

How do you put music on the SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 Player

1. First, you have songs saving in your computer.
2. You have 2 ways to put music on the Sandisk Sansa Clip:
2.1. Plug device into computer, Drag and Drop music from your computer into "Music" folder of the Sandisk Sansa Clip.
2.2. Use Windows Media Player in your computer to transfer songs to your device; Plug device to computer, open Windows Media Player, click on Sync tab, drag and drop music into "Drag items here " on the right side of the windows media player, click on Start Sync button.
Good luck

Old songs dont show

If you mean that the songs don't show up on the computer screen, then you probably need to change the USB MODE setting on the Clip. To do this, disconnect the Clip from the computer, then scroll to SETTINGS. Select Settings, then scroll to USB Mode and select it.. (If your Clip is very old it might not have a USB Mode listed under SETTINGS. If this is the case you should update your Clip's Firmware from the sansa website). Older computers recognize the MSC Mode while newer ones should recognize either mode. (except XP Professional doesn't seem to recognize the MTP mode). Songs entered in one mode won't show up on the computer if you're in the other mode. If you mean that the songs aren't showing up on the Clip's own screen then this solution probably won't help. By the way, I've never had any luck with the "auto detect" mode.

SanDisk Sansa Clip

Use Windows Media Player to transfer the songs downloaded from Limewire to your Sansa. The first time you open Windows Media Player, it will search the "My Music" folder for songs - this may take a few minutes. Mkae sure you have Windows Media Player 10 or 11. You can either move or copy the Limewire songs to the folder called "My Music," or go into Windows Media Player and change Windows Media Player's configuration so that it can read the Limewire downloads folder.

To help you with that, I need to know what operating system your using (XP, Vista, ect...) and what other devices you have plugged into the computer. There are a few things you can try. When you plug it in, does it say it's connected? Does the "Found new hardware" wizard come up? Let me know, I'll see what I can do to help
