Question about Samsung MC5694 Microwave Oven
Hi, I had the same problem and in my case the fix was easy. First the root cause: there is a ribbon cable inside the microwave that connects the control panel to the keypad, which is kind of folded. Over time, condensation will make two pieces of the ribbon cable stuck together, causing short circuit. The solution is to separate the pieces and put a piece of paper in between. First you need to access the control panel by unscrewing the top grill of the microwave. After removing the top grill, you will see a screw holding the control panel to the oven. Just unscrew that one and remove the control panel. You will then see the ribbon cable. Inspect whether it is folded and the two sides are stuck. If yes, just separate them and put a piece of paper in-between.

If you're handy, this above approach worked. It is only removing three screws (two to the top grill, 1 to the control panel - easy) Thanks Victor!
Thanks Victor.
Thanks victor. You save me some money!!!
Thanks Victor, you just saved me $300. Ever in Illinois ? dinner on me!.
Thanks Victor. The paper in between the ribbon cable worked.

Hi all, my solution was to call Samsung support. The SE error is a known issue which they will repair for FREE, if the problem is with the keyboard, cable or wiring. If it's the actual box you will have to pay. The service repair person will let you know the cost. Mine was FREE.

Had same problem and got it fixed. Thanks to Victor and YouTube. After opening found that the ribbon cables are stuck together. I inserted a paper where the ribbon folds s..t. It doesn't touch each other. Also did a cleaning with blowing air, from a bicycle hand pump( didn't have a air duster available).

Also have the dreaded SE code. Called Samsung, Yes it is covered under extended warranty. (This is an indication they know it's a poor design/manufacture.) Samsung repeatedly indicated it was covered as long as it was the touchpad. Tech from A&E arrived this morning, told me up front this was a service call I was expected to pay for, at about $120 in labor, but the part was free. I explained that Samsung had repeatedly assured me the labor was included. The tech smiled and said that this happens all the time with Samsung and the SE issue. He said unless I was willing to spend the $120, he would have to leave & reschedule. He left about 15 minutes ago. I was also told he would have to come back again after Samsung told A&E it was a no charge situation. And he would have to confirm it needed to be replaced, THEN ORDER THE PART, and come back again at a later date. Samsung did not provide the part, nor did A&E even have the part on the truck. Now waiting for Samsung to return my call. Since I am self-employed & it cost me more than twice the cost of a new microwave (in lost income) for 3 visits, I am probably going to buy the part myself, install it, make sure it works, then pull the entire unit out, replace it with a NON SAMSUNG product, and list it on Craig's List cheap!

I made a call to Samsung due to this SE error code. I mentioned that I thought it might be a "known issue." within 24 hours they had sent a technician to our home to replace the board. Fast and Free...I could not have been more pleased with their service.

Usually answered in minutes!
We have a Samsung SMH9187 that we have owned for two years. As it is in our second home, it is used very rarely. Today, we noticed the infamous SE code after using the microwave. At first, the microwave responded by turning on and off on its own volition, as if possessed. Unplugging and plugging the unit in resulted in the code being displayed, and the keypad becoming un operational. I removed the keypad using instructions provided here and elsewhere and quickly noticed that the ribbon cable was infact folded and touching on itself. A small sliver of paper towel was carefully inserted into the fold. Five minutes later, the panel was reinstalled, and hey presto; it works just like new. And I saved myself the cost of a new panel and a service call! Thanks to all who contributed.
Just fixed mine. Your idea worked perfectly.
Just fixed mine, thanks LOVE the Internet!
I just replaced the control panel bought from Sears Parts Direct and it worked like a charm..))
