You can use Paint on your computer to modify it. If not it just might be the type of printer. See if you can buy darker ink at another store. If not your pretty much stuck like that. You can also go to copy stores or most major stores to get stuff copied for free or cost....
1. If you are printing using postscript driver, try using PCL6 - printout would be darker for grey scaled items.
2. Print in lower resolution 600dpi or 300dpi, printouts would be darker.
3. Try printing all characters as black
You can adjust darkness at the printer using the console menu.
In the Configuration Menu ' Print Quality sub Menu , there is a parameter called Tonor Density. Factory Default is 3. Set to 4 or 5 to increase darkness..
It sounds like your black (K) or Black/Yellow (KY) head needs to be replaced. The problem appears to be in the top half of the black head. Without knowing more (like what make/model the printer is) I can't help more than that.
Some printers only use the black ink to provide a darker black. They also use the other colors to print black. That is they use all three to come up with black. If you color cartridge is out of two of the colors, you may be getting just the red. Otherwise you may have a hardware problem.
Try cleaning the print heads by this method: 1 Press Menu 2 Press the down arrow until "Clean printhead" shows. 3 Press OK 4 Press OK
If this doesn't work, then insert a step after 3: press down once to select the "deep clean." If this doesn't fix it either then you will need to replace the print heads. This document from Kodak will describe how to do that under "Maintenance"
There is no white ink in the printer. White needs to come from the paper. The inks in your printer can only make your paper DARKER, and you can't get any darker than black.
