TomTom XL340 is stuck on TomTom boot screen. Cannot turn off.

Only recent TomTom released devices with lifetime free map update.
All others you have to pay for.
I know there are some websites, offering maps, cracks and metadata to do an update yourself, but to reach them you always have to pay something and it depends on your skills and computer knowledge if to will work for you.
Don't ask us for free maps or update. We are answering questions for free. More we can't give on fixya.

If you have tomtom home 2 installed on your computer, run it and connect your unit to the pc, and the program will tell you what you have installed on your sat-nav, it's always wise to transfer all your data from your unit to the pc which will help you reinstall, hope this helps you

Under Change Preferences:

First, Show ALL Menu Options.

Then, select Set Units.

Miles/Kilometers will be the first choice you'll be asked to make.

Press the reset button on the under part of the TT. Then hook it up to the PC and redownload applications, maps and updates from Tom Tom.

It sticks to surfaces that a suction cup mount does not stick to.

I just hung up with TOMTOM support. If you have the first edition TOMTOM you need the EZ Port Mount Kit for the 1140, 1140S, XL340 or XL340s. Not it isn't rocket science, but it would have been nice to have clear compatability information on the box. Hope this helps.
