Have a vizio 42plasma about 4yrs old. a lil bit ago i started to get red an green flashes thru the pic then the other day i herd a pop an the screen went black. when i turn it on now the pic/image comes thru a lil bit but as the set is turned on it almost looks as the blackness melts/drips away to reveal a very dark picture. i checked the y an z sus boards, all capactors an fuses seem to be good however thers a fuse on the power supply board that has sum yellowish gunk on it at the bottom of the fuse.is this a burnt out fuse?? an culd that be the popping noise i herd an the source of my problem?? please help...thank you, lilpep

The main tv Tuner signal board is dead.That the board,where the incomming broadcasting signal cable plug into it.Try website like Ebay.com to buy a refurbish tv Tuner signal board for the replacement.

May be time for a new set--it is one of several things up to and including the front screen unit---average life on these is 3-5 years and if not the panel repair could easily be 400 or more.
Hi,
4 blinks indicated of backlight malfunction. The unit shutsdown to avoid overload to the inverter board.
Check the backlights, busted backlight has a physical indication of fault like blackened end, crack end. You must replaced the busted one and your unit will back to normal operation again.

Exact same thing happened to me last night. The TV only received High Def chanles. When switched to reg. chanels, there are green vertical lines. Light is definitely on and visible in the back. Now goes out after abut 30 sec. Misery loves company. Will watch the site for a solution. 4yrs. old just went off extended warranty 45 days ago. damn
No it your lamp has failed this time. Replace it and you should be enjoying ur television again.
The pop sound was the lamp shattering in its housing, does'nt get into the television tho. You can save money by just buying the bulb and installing it into your original lamp housing.
My 37" vizio I bought in Dec 2007 did this (green screen at start-up on all inputs). At first it went away by itself after you left the unit on for 15 minutes, but then 2 days later the whole thing DIED. Luckily Costco has a 90 day return policy on TVs.
Vizio tech support suggested this (before it died that is): Please
try to reset
all setting
and then to see if the problem is solved.1.
Press the Menu on your Remote Control; 2.
choose Set up on the OSD; 3.
then choose Reset All settings; 4.
Press the Exit on your Remote Control to remove the OSD.
