I'd need a better model number, however the general jumper for most maxtor drives is J50 on = master, off = slave or cable select.
/j50 is usually closest to the data cable and the jumper goes on vertically.

I want to add another hard drive and need to know how to set the jumpers on my maxtor 90645d3 please help.ty

if you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

Setting Maxtor HD as Slave.

Howdy,

First "easy" one I've had in hours....

Just pull the J50 pin out of the jumper block and PRESTO it'll be a slave the OFF position literally reffers to having the J50 pin off of the hard drive. Just a note though, I highly recommend using a peice of scotch tape to affix the pin to a nearby surface cause there a real pain to find if and when you need em again.

Hi i have a 10.1gb Maxtor model 31024H1 IDE hard drive and i need the jumper setting for slave

slave is NO jumpers at all

(Master) - The vertical jumper over the J50 pins is configuring the drive as a Master. The horizontal jumper over the J48 and J46 pins is in the Storage position.
(Master with CLJ) - The vertical jumper over the J50 pins is configuring the drive as a Master. The vertical jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).
(Slave) - No jumper is required to configure the drive as a Slave. The jumpers over the J48, J46, J44 and J42 positions are both in the storage position.
(Slave with CLJ) - The jumper over the J44 and J42 positions is in the storage position. The jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).
(Cable Select) - The jumper over the J48 position is configuring the drive for Cable Select. The jumper over the J44 and J42 pins is in the storage position.
(Cable Select with CLJ) - The jumper over the J48 position is configuring the drive for Cable Select. The jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).
