My company provided me wired internet using Paradyne 6381 wired modem. it works fine. I have D Link 2640 T wirelss modem + router available with me. Please advise me how do I connect available D link 2640...

Since your D-Link 2640 is a modem + router it may not work the way you intend.

You need just a wireless router without modem.

Run a small Ethernet patch cable from your Paradyne modem into the WAN port on your router, you can plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the other LAN ports on the router, then access the router setup using the computer connected to the Ethernet cable using a browser and putting the router's IP address into the address line of your browser. It will most likely be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

Once you have configured the Wi-Fi router you will have your wireless network. Full instructions should come with the router.

Routers are available for as little as $29.95 but expect to pay closer to $79.95 for satisfactory speed and capability.

We hooked up our router to our modem following the instructions and tried to run the network set up and it says 'not connected to the Internet'.. But the lap top says it is connected. It won't let us get...

These types of issues can be tough to troubleshoot. Let's start with the generic basics and you can let me know if we need to get more specific. .
  1. I'm assuming that you have the laptop connected (wired) to the router and the router wired to the modem. When you're troubleshooting, everything should be wired, not wireless.
  2. Make sure that the cables are connected to the right ports! Not trying to insult you here, but I've done this accidentally myself.
  3. Turn off everything except the modem.
  4. Follow the manufacturers instructions to reset the modem. Most of them have a reset button. Make sure the modem indicates Internet link is up before proceeding.
  5. Now turn on the router. Does it connect to the modem? Check the lights. If the modem is connected, but the router is not, then I would suspect a cable issue, or even possibly a defective router. If the router and modem are connecting, go to the next step.
  6. Start up the laptop and try to connect to the Internet via the WIRE. When troubleshooting, it is important that you test wired before trying wireless.
  7. If that works, try wireless. Make sue you're in the same room as the router when you test this out. In other words, make sure you have good signal.
. So those are the basics on how to isolate the problem to a particular piece of equipment. Once you know where the problem is, then we can get to specific troubleshooting techniques. . Let me know how this works out.

The only light on my router is the router light. No other lights are coming on. I have tried rebooting.

When facing the router, Globe/Internet LED is on the right. Below are the LED indicators; Check the steps below:

Wireless Security - This light will only turn on if the wireless security is enabled.

Wireless-Computer Status - This light will turn on if a wireless computer is connected to the router.

Wired-computer Status - This light will turn on if a wired computer is connected to the router. Connect the wired computer to any gray port on the router. (There are 4 gray ports).

Router Status - Power light. Solid blue means the router is on and ready.

Modem Status - If this is off, it means the router is not connected to the modem. Make sure the cable is connected from the modem to the yellow port on the router.

Internet Status - This light will indicate if the router is connected to the internet.

If this is the first time you are installing the router, then what is important is to get the router, wired-computer and modem lights ON. Once they are on, you may insert the CD that came with the Belkin router to setup the internet connection and wireless settings.

My wireless hp says router cannot find host name

Double check your physical connection. It should be this way

Modem > connected to Internet Port of the router
PC > connected to port 1
Laptop > can be wireless

Now you must power cycle your router and modem. Turn off router first then modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Power on modem first, then the router. You must configure the wireless settings on your laptop it doesn't connect automatically.

Belkin N Modem Router If main PC which is ethernet wired to the modem router is swtiched off, laptops cannot access the internet. Does this mean that the PC to which the modem router is connected has to...

it will as long as the modem/router is connected to a phone line, instead of the pc, the only cable connected to the pc should be a ethernet cable; or you have the pc networking set that it connects via another pc instead of through a gateway, re run the wireless network wizard.

No internet signal from router

To isolate the concern, it would be better to test the non working computer to the modem. If it works, that means there is a problem with the router and if it isn't then it is a problem with the pc..

If the computer works fine on the modem, you can try the following to check if the router works fine:

1. The modem should be connected to the router's WAN/Internet port.
2. The computers should be hard wired to the router's numbered port
3. On the router's setup page, go to the Status tab and check if the Internet IP address and the DNS are populated. If not, that means the router is not functioning correctly.
4. Go to the wireless tab and make sure that the SSID is customized. Make sure that the wireless computer is connecting to the said SSID.

If those had been checked and it still does not work, you can try updating the firmware of the router, reset and reconfigure it.

However, if the computer does not work on the modem. You may need to have it checked.
