BOUGHT A TOM TOM 1 AND IT BOOTED UP RIGHT AWAY GAVE LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS TURNED IT ON TODAY IT WONT RECIEVE A SIGNAL

you need to connect it to the computer and go to tom tom home and there you can get free download to fix the problem.

the signal is aquired from satilites, leave it outside for a while then come back to it, if it still hasnt aquired then sounds like you have a malfunction...call tom tom

OK Heres what to try.

1) Check the BAUD rate and PORT are set in accordance with the manual
2) the battery is fully Charged ( AC)
3) a clear view of the sky.

If all of those are as they should be then it may be a damaged SIIRF chip which makes it a throw away item. Cheaper to buy a new GPS

create an account click update my device/one/go
cllick install gps quick fix

Need model number and manufacture. Likely a communication error.

I suddenly lost the GPS signal today and could not get it back. All I got was the "No valid GPS signal". My solution was to tap on the GPS satellite bars when in the route map. this brought up the "Status summary page of the TOMTOM.

I then again tapped the satellite bar which brought up the "GPS Status" page. I then tapped the bar labeled "configure".

The radio button next to the option titled "Minutes (dm.m') was selected. I then moved the selection to "Degrees (d.d) and it started working.

I had just downloaded the GPS fix 5 days ago so it is not like this suddenly caused it to stop working.

This may not work for everyone but this is what it took to get mine working.

Try to reset the device. I used to have a Tom Tom 500, which has the same problem.

Solution to the original problem above.

You need to connect TomTom to a computer and run their 'TomTom Home' program. Let it check for updates. It will download a file called "QuickGPSfix data". This file updates your TomTom with the latest satellite positions and ensures your TomTom will find its coordinates very quickly after switching on. A new file can be downloaded at least once a week. Generally, the longer you left it since downloading this file, the longer it will take to find its coordinates (ie. find a signal).
