The memory is not soldered on and is a standard SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (also called PC2-5300) there should be shops around dedicated for PC repair who can get a 1GB module for you (only has single channel/ one slot on the board). The usual spot for netbooks to have the slot is underneath the keyboard requiring quite a few small screws to be removed and some precise (small) tools to get everything done. If you have a friend who is a techie, might be worth it to ask if they can install a module. If not the fee from a store should be small to install especially if you buy module from them. I would also suggest to check and see if they have a used 1GB module that is in fine working order that can be obtained for a smaller price. Repair shops usually have this as a result of upgrades or parting broken computers as not everything goes bad if only one part fails. If you still need help I have a Mumbai that may be able to suggest a place if you are unable to fine one, but knowing the city is big I may need to find what area if messages are able to sent here as in forums.

Hi TheGoatEater, your comments are most encouraging. Being a bit of a "techie" myself, i should not face a problem removing the modules etc. It was after opening everything up, that I found the memory chip soldered into the motherboard. It was not a plug in chip. I have also found that the memory chips in question are of make "Hynix". Some interactions with MSI suggests that I speak with two Mumbai parties. One of them has no clue. The other I have yet to approach. I thank you for your help and suggestions.
