My MP780 is showing error 343. I know this is related to the ink absorber. I would really like the code to reset the counter so that I can print now and change the pads later.
I know. I've since figured it out. Pressing Menu, Scan, Copy then Scan accesses the service menu. I went to #7 and found the option to reset the counters. This solution is for the MP780 and may not be helpful with other models.I know. I've since figured it out. Pressing Menu, Scan, Copy then Scan accesses the service menu. When you see the error "Ink absorber nearly full" or "ink absorber full" you really need a shop to replace the ink absorber. The error is generated by firmware in the printer or multi-function that counts the number of prints, power cycles, and cleaning operations. It is not a sensor or gauge inside to be reset. The absorbers are thick pads covering the bottom of the print engine and all waste ink from the purge assembly is directed through channels and tubes to these absorbers. You should never reset the error code without fresh absorbers installed as the ink can fill inside and ruin the printer or damage the furniture the printer sits on. The absorbers are fairly cheap, from $10.00 to about $20.00 and after changing the pads the Canon repair person will enter the service mode and reset the counter. This operation is well worth the expense as a good technician will clean and lubricate the printer at the same time ensuring you of longer trouble-free printing.
<Ink absorber counter resetting> Reset the ink absorber counter (to 0%) when the ink absorber is replaced, or after the logic board is replaced. 1) In the service mode, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times to enter the ink absorber counter resetting mode. 2) In the ink absorber counter resetting mode, press the Stop/Reset button the specified number of time(s) according to the kind of ink absorber whose value should be reset to 0%. ("D=000.0 Ps=000.0" is printed at the top left of the paper.) *1: According to the number of times the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the LED lights as follows: - Odd number of times: Alarm LED lights - Even number of times: ON/OFF LED lights
That machine doesn't lie, anytime I've had that error on that machine it is really full. It means you need a new absorber installed and the counter reset by a shop. The absorbers are under the printer and cover the entire bottom of the machine. That means the print engine, scanner, all circuit boards and cables have to be removed just to gain access. I do that job in the shop for $90.75 total.
actually ink absorber is full means you printer inside got small pieces towel to absorb ink. but Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter
suggests that the ink absorber may be full. If you've done a lot of
printing, the ink absorber may actually be full and you might need to
have it cleaned or replaced to ensure the best printing quality.
However, if you haven't printed that much or you have and you just need
to print something right this minute, there is a way to reset the
counter and stop the error from showing up again
please try go to this website : http://ij-forum.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-reset-ink-level-of-fine.html the you go left hand side download General Tools (EEPROM Resetter) Collection and install on you cpu.

Cannon Pixma MP780 have an absorber and this error is related to this absorber.
This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible. Press the <Stop/Reset> button to cancel the error. You will still be able to print for a short period. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset.
I would suggest that you take your printer to the nearest cannon service centre and get it repaired.
Under the place where the inks park is a tray full of asorbent pads. It was the most awful thing to get to in my Pixma ip 2000. If you have a day to spare, and a work table, and some long needle nose pliers or maybe hemostats, and the usual tools, you can take the machine apart to get at it. Note which pads (and parts) go where, everything has to go back where it came from. The pads will rinse out with water, lots of it.
Dear mr perfect, Few days ago I have answered the same question about this for Canon MP700. Here is my answer: Waste ink absorber capacity of your printer has rise to about 90-95 %.
Tentatively, you can continue printing by pressing STOP/RESET button.
When ink absorber capacity reach about 100%, the printer stop working
and message 'Waste Ink Tank is Full' appears. To fix this problem,
you need to reset waste ink counter. It strongly recommended that you
replace waste ink absorber after resetting waste ink counter. Here are steps resetting waste ink counter of this printer:
With the machine power off, while pressing STOP/RESET button, press and hold the ON/OFF button. (Do not release the buttons).
While holding ON/OFF button, release the STOP/RESET button. (Do not release the ON/OFF button).
While holding the ON/OFF button, press the STOP/RESET
2 times and then release all buttons. (Each time STOP/RESET is pressed,
the alarm LED and COPY lights alternately starting with alarm LED).
When the COPY button lights in green, press STOP/RESET
button 4 times. (Each time STOP/RESET is pressed, the alarm LED and
COPY lights alternately starting with alarm LED).
I know. I've since figured it out. Pressing Menu, Scan, Copy then Scan accesses the service menu. I went to #7 and found the option to reset the counters. This solution is for the MP780 and may not be helpful with other models.
