If you have a video adapter, try plugging it there. maybe you just plug it to the built in video adapter instead of your PCI video adapter.

My laptop screen shows black even though laptop is able to power up.. What does this mean?

The backlight on the monitor might be burnt out, hook up the computer to an external monitor just to rule out the computer itself. If it is burnt out then the only option would be to send it in for repair.

Aspire 5520 has LCD Display. The screen displays becomes dark/ dim if there is no backlight.
There are two parts responsible for lighting the display. First is the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp), which is the back light and the second is the Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. These parts are inside the LCD screen. Either of the parts may be faulty or in some rare cases both. Also, the video data cable may be loose or faulty, which can be identified only after opening the top cover.
So, my advice is that you get it properly checked by any professional for replacement of Inverter or CCFL.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Most likely the inverter module for the lcd screen has failed. If you can hook up your laptop to an external monitor, you will be able to make sure that the rest of the laptop sill functions.

An inverter is a inexpensive part, $10-15 dollars, but requires that the lid be disassembled somewhat to install it

Acer travelmate 5520, when you start is white screen after 20 seconds and stops

Test the laptop with a external monitor see if you get any picture on the external if the external screen remains white then most likely the mainboard or the video adapter (in most cases build into the mainboard) is failing or has failed. One Possible reason could be overheating damage (the unit may not be overheating right now during the 20 seconds, it may have suffered earlier).

It could also be a poor connection between the display and the mainboard. but if the screen works for 20 seconds and then goes white its probably not the issue.

If the external screen works without any problems the issue is most likely your lcd screen or one of the boards inside.

If you are in warranty get in touch with your dealer or acer.
If you are outside of warranty get in touch with acer or a local repairer / acer cervice center.

Camera screen remains black when I turn on shooting mode

Turn the camera on. With the screen showing, press the DISP button and this will give you a selection of different screen views i.e. squares for aligning shot squarely; black - thru viewfinder only; etc. Different modes will give you different screen displays i.e. P setting screens are different to when you have the camera set on AUTO.

Hope this helps.

My screen is almost black

Hi,
Generally in such cases , the screen is always at fault. The LCD lamp goes out and thats the reason the screen is dim. If the system is still under warranty get the same replaced.
The other thing you can do is to Reseat the LCD cable to the motherboard. if the same is not connected properly it can result in the same scenario.

Thanks
