The GPS needs a clear view of the sky and at least 3 or more satellites to get a fix on your position. If you are under a heavy canopy of tree cover / brush, it can affect accuracy and even the GPS's ability to get a fix at all. Also, if you are in a mountainous region, the geometry of your location and the location of the satellites over the equator could be obstructed, resulting in the lost satellite messages. You must have an unobstructed view of the southern sky to get a fix.

If you are able to get a fix in an open area, the GPS is able to do its job, but the location you're trying to use it in is offers too much interference to capture satellite signals.

Making sure you've got the latest firmware from Garmin can solve a lot of troubles, too. If you still believe that your GPS isn't working the way it should, contact Garmin Support.

I hope this helps - and good luck. Please rate my reply - thank you.

Garmin Rino 530 radio noise even with squelch turned up. Hissing

Are you carrying a cell phone with you at the time? A cell phone can interfere with these units. You may want to call Garmin to ask questions on this problem. They are very helpful and professional.

My Garmins 530 wont power up and I have replaced the power pack

PRobably a defective logic board at this point. Was the jack loose before? Can you measure if the voltage goes in using a multimeter? If the jack is connected properly and it does not turn on, it's your board. If all else fails, there are third party Garmin repair services that will fix it for cheap.

Power Switch will not turn my Rhino 530 HCx on

When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen. Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%. I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result. I’ve tried it while connected to the charger. Same result. I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries. Same result. Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.

Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.

Rhino 530 no signal

I have a 530 which was intermittently receiving sat signals for about a day then it quit. I disassembled it and found that the circuit trace that connects to the GPS antenna had cracked at the edge of the solder connection. I added a short jumper on the trace and that fixed the problem. Note: very fine soldering. Not for the novis.

I live in Canada Quebec near Ottawa, purchased nuvi 200W, it picked up my location and found surrounding towns etc, but when I search for example a train station it keeps defaulting to NewYork ?

Canada does not come pre loaded on those units. The update disc will not add it on either. What you need is the Pre-programed City navigator chip for Canada. Normally retails around $59.99 US
