My Panasonic NN-T994 Microwave oven died today. Would run for a few seconds with a clicking sound and an electrical smell. I removed the cover, restarted and found arcing from the area of what I think is the inverter board...Is this a common fault or a bad magnetron or time buy a new microwave? PS: Non emergency on my part as I put my old, old very old Toshiba back in service/ Would appreciate advice..Thanks in advance

From your description it does indicate a magnetron problem, you would be further ahead replacing the microwave oven when you consider the expense of the repair involved.

The door won't latch closed and the door release button pushes all the way in

I have the NN-T994 SFR model and it had a switch that was staying depressed. I removed the screws to (in my case) the stainless steel cabinet, removed the cabinet and unhooked the wires to lay it aside. Found that the switch was cracked or broken, glued it back exactly as it was, then put the cabinet back on and it fixed it! Now about a year later, I have another problem...oh well. Hope this works on yours.

My panasonic NN-T945SF starts, runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. And I smell rubber burning.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

The microwave starts, then stops after a few seconds, and smells

Remove the cover after pulling the power plug. Check the transformer and large capacitor for signs of overheating. If they look ok, then remove the sheet metal wave-guide from the area where the energy enters the cooking cavity. Under the wave guide is a fan-like device called a stirrer that has a plastic bearing. This stirrer bearing is commonly arced over (when the oven is operated with nothing to heat in it). Usually the bearing looks good, but has arced internally. Replace the stirrer as a unit. The machine can be operated with the case off and a cup of water for a load, but keep you hands clear. Look for smoke.

Burnt Rubber Smell then Off

That would most likely be a problem with the inverter or magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Panasonic Microwave Warm

Replace the h.v. capacitor (the silver can mounted in back under the magnatron) and the h.v. diode and it will be fine.

Microwave shutsdown after 24 seconds, does not heat up

Classic symptom of a defective inverter. It it's under warranty, you're probably in luck. If not, expect repair costs of about $120-150. If you can find a servider who will repair the inverter instead of just replacing it, you can save some money. If you or a friend can replace it yourself, you'll really save, assuming you follow safe procedures. You can find my file "safety.txt" via a Yahoo search. It is part # A606Y5X00AP for model NN-T993S and runs $62.83 plus shipping. The inverter can be gotten from Panasonic at http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr
