My Hoover upright model 6437-900 makes a distressed sound when I turn it on and it also burns rubber. The roller turns. I've checked the thick black belt and it's intact, but has lots of 'pitting'. HELP!!

It certainly sounds as though the belt needs replacement. (Part # 38528035) If the belt has stretched, it will slip, causing a burning rubber odor. Get a new belt and compare it to the used one.

Smoke and burning rubber smell from hoover wind tunnel mach 7. Hard to push (roller not really turning). I opened everything up and cleaned roller. Now roller seems to turn ok but still have the burning...

This is common. You need to remove the brush roller completely and untangle hair and threads from around the spindle. The roller should turn very freely. Yours isn't and is causing the drive belt to slip and create the smell.

MOTOR RUNS WITH NO VACUUM PRESSURE

Sounds like the belt should be replaced. It maybe turning the brush, but if you smell burning rubber, its slipping and not turning the brush with as much force as it should. Changed the belt. Check the air suction path. If the suction is reduced, something is blocking it. Check the bag (if it has one) and all filters. If the machine picks up any liquid, it will reduce the air flow through the filters and bag. Change the bag and filters. If this is an upright, you may find caked on dirt under or in the area of the brush.

I replaced my belts on my premium hoover wind tunnel and the roller barely moves. Also, I keep getting a rubber burning smell. I'm confused weather if it's worth to have fixed or buy new.

More then likely whats going on with your roller is on each side of the roller is bearings and hair or other things build up and makes it really hard to rotate.Take the roller off the vacuum and check you may be able to clean and oil them.

Hoover WindTunnel, month-old belt, now too large to turn brush

I suspect you have been bitten by the Chinese bug.
A very large percentage of replacement parts for all manner of appliances and vehicles are now being conterfeited in China who we should know by now has no respect for the intellectual property of others and a flood of low-quality stuff is being made as 'knock-offs' since they are generally easy to fabricate with fairly primitive means. Our eldest son just returned a supposedly 'new' steering pump for his (US) car but this one at least had China as the origin shown on the package.
Make sure though that the brush roller turns freely and isn't being impeded by trapped thread in the bearings.

Vacuum shuts off and has a burnt smell

Hi,
Try removing the drivebelt, and try running it to test like this. The brush bar will not turn, but it should function normally without smell at this point. If it doesn't, you may need a new motor as I think the brushes may have worn down - producing an electrical type burning smell.

If it runs fine without the belt attatched, then there is probably a build-up of hair or threads at each end of the roller stopping it turning freely. With the hoover off, check it turns freely and easily. A small metal nail file or similar is usually a good tool to clear it.

If the roller is stiff, the belt will not turn easily, and overheat on the motor spindle - causing the burning smell.

Hoover Vacuum model U4471 making a very strange noise and letting of a smoke smell

The Elite upright may need to have its drive belt checked. Check that the machine roller is still working. Then turn the vacuum off and locate the screws on the floor head by turning the machine over. If you remove a couple of screws the floor head will come off and you can check the belt. Usually old threads and hair can stop the roller bar from moving properly or may have got to the belt. Ensure that it moves freely simply by turning the roller with your hand. If it doesn't then its possible that the roller needs to be cleaned or the belt needs to be replaced. Drive belts are easy to get for most Hoover products; a smoke smell like burning rubber usually indicates the drive belt is about to give up or has simply snapped. Dont forget to rate if this solution has worked for you. Ty.

Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.
