Wireless in hotels.

first of all you need to check with your internet provider to see what modem you can use. a wirless 802.11g card (the farthest range) if your provider has a wirless modem i would get it from them. and a wirless modem/router. i use bellsouth wirless dsl and bought the equipment from them. if you have a wirless modem/ router already then you just need the card and configure it.

a source can be a service provider with wireless connection or a free hotspots or

a home based wired internet connection with wireless router

if you have a wireless router then you may have to call the ISP for the DNS server settings if any required but for others i think the auto IP configuration settings should work fine

Your computer locking up could be a spyware or virus program taking over your machine as soon as you get an internet connection.

Try connecting the laptop to a wired connection and see if it does the same thing.
Run some virus scans from trend micro.

If you can re-install the software for the wireless card. This might help too.

Firefox can freeze your system but highly unlikely from a fresh install.

You would have to get in touch with the Linksys , to get the card activated first, if the card is activated then you need to call your interenet service provider , for the network password.

do one thing install the driver of the router card in ur note book by cd is give with the card.after install the driver card restart the notebook then you get the icon in taskbar wireless signal.then after go to linksys router first go the network place right cilk propersities after that u see the local area connection right cilk properties then go for tcp/ip protocol then properties after that u give the ip address 192.168.1.50 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 aND DEFAULT GATWAY IS 192.168.1.1 THEN GIVE OK OK OK. then go start >run>type ping 192.168.1.1 then enter after that u show the black screen in that given reply or request time out.if the reply is came then go to internet exlporer in address bar type 192.168.1.1 then enter asking user name and password then give usermane admin and password is admin after then go wireless cilk it then enable the wireless in that you can give the wep key also.
