I simply cannot get surround sound, mainly I suspect because of my room, which carries through from lounge to middle room. I realise that the beam is probably travelling right through to other room and missing what's left of the lounge wall. Any ideas?

Did you use to be able to turn up the front levels and now you can't?
Or is it the first time you have installed it?
If it previously did then clearly there is a fault.
However if not. Then like many receivers the front volume is simply controlled by the main volume control. If this is the case then you need to adjust the other channels to give you the best sound. The best way to do this is get one of those THX DVD discs. On the menu to the disc you will find a setting for setting up the sound THX screen. It will produce a test tone for each speaker. You then adjust it for the best sound quality. This way the sound field will sound great for your living room and Dolby movies will have you jumping out of your seat when an unexpected sound appears on the left channel and voices won't get drowned out by noises from the back.
Maybe you do not realise that you have posted your statement onto the washing machine forum ;-0(
Try reposting onto the TV FixYa forum and it would help the guys and gals there to help you if there was some more information, please ;-0)
Thanks, John C
Ohhhhhh, so it has NEVER worked for YOU and it needed fixing when you got it. That changes everything. And you don't have the manual??
You can find the manual on Retrevo.com. Just register and download it. You're going to need it to make use of this unit anyway.
Make sure everything is connected correctly.
Look it over and play around with it. Speaker setup needs to be done before anything else. Did you get the microphone that comes with it? If not, go to page 23 and start there.
just plug your satellite and dvd player in to your tv. and simply take an extra set of red, white, yellow wires and us use the red and white wires to connect fron your tv output to your surround sound system's input. now you should have surround sound for everything included local tv stations from your tv antenna
This is gong to sound lame because I don't know the answer but I can point you in the right direction. The same thing happened when I got my new TV, but that was years ago. If you have you TV set to broadcast in surround sound, it sends the talking to a "fifth" speaker in the middle of the room. The background sounds, like thunder and gunshots, are sent to the speakers that project out into the room, so it sounds like the background sound is all around you. HOWEVER if you do not have a surround-sound speaker system, there is no fifth speaker for the voices to go to. Now, i don't remember what the settings are called, but I'll bet if you call the store where you got your tv they can tell you.
when the stereo or mono listening mode is selected only front speaker and subwoofer produce sound--------make sure that speakers are configured correctly. and you select surround sound in listening mode.
