I bought a Braun 8595/ Used it 3 times and it needed to be recharged. Suspect I need a new battery. Can I do that? What does it cost?

It is not that young anymore. The rechargeable battery is (almost?) dead. It is almost impossible to replace it. I once tried it, took me more than a day yo put everything together and still it never was as before.
I have bought a new Braun (799) and I'm convinced this one will live longer. The rechargeable battery in this one, you can shave one hour before you need to recharge it. It lasts a week with me, or sometimes even longer, before I have to charge it again.

Perhaps you just use the shaver with the power cord, like we used to do for 20 years, and start saving for a new one?

The circuit board on the shaver may have become faulty. One thing you can try is to fully charge the shaver first, directly connected to the outlet, and then try using the cleaning base. Also, be sure that the fluid level is sufficient. Lastly, you may be able to buy a used but working condition cleaning station off of eBay. New replacements are a bit costly.

Does the cleaning station no longer recognize the shaver? If so, it's possible that the contacts have been bent out of position. It's a bit tricky to fix, though. You'll need to take the unit apart and then bend the contacts back into position. Alternatively, you can buy used but working examples of these cleaning stations off of eBay.

Batteries have an expiry date, Even if you're not using them they are still discharging. Even the regular AA type you buy at the shops.

Batteries can die even if there is a lack of use. And even regular rechargeable shavers that are used all the time have only a limited life a little shorter that=n what you've had.

Should you get new batteries or a new shaver? probably not, you're using 2-3 times a year. I'd recommend buying a cheap Braun or Remington that can take AA's.

I'm in the process of replacing the Braun 8000 Series Activator Motor Drive Unit in my shaver. The Motor Drive Unit is all one piece, cost $33.99 at http://shaveroutlet.com/.To disassemble remove the plastic cover on the bottom that covers the cord socket. Be careful, there are a total of two tabs on the short sides and four very small tabs on the long sides. I used my fingernail to create a space big enough to insert the corner on a credit card in the center of a long side and gently removed the cover. Using a screwdriver could damage the plastic. The two sides then pop off. There are a total of four screws holding the body together. Remove the screws, the shaver splits into. Remove the Motor Drive Unit and replace with new unit. There is also a circuit board with the batteries below the Motor Drive Unit. Assembly is the reverse of above.
