What is USB GSM modem?
USB GSM modem is a modem working for cellular gsm networks.
USB GSM modem contains usb gprs modem and usb edge modem.
It's a USB internet modem. Simply speaking, it's just for internet connection.

Normally, we can call GSM modem a 2g modem, GPRS modem for 2.5g modem, and EDGE modem for 2.75g modem.

USB GSM GPRS modem works with GPRS network, back compatible to GSM network.

USB GSM EDGE modem works with EDGE, GPRS and GSM networks, providing 384kbps internet data speed.

Using A580 with DLink Router. Incoming & Outgaoing calls OK for about 2 Mins then call breakup. Signal & Battery showing OK. Person at other end can sometimes hear everything OK.

THis sounds like you have ether a bad modem router or connection. You will not notice it with a webpage but VOIP uses UDP a real time and stateless. Which in a nut shell means the phone send a stream of data and dosen't care if the other end gets it or not it just sends. If you have a bad connection to the internet the phone will get interminit packet loss aka: audio breakup. So to debug and fix this.

First eliminate the variables:
Connect the Phone Directly to the Internet Providers Modem.

Reset or power cycle the modem.

Try to call out.

If it is still breaking up contact your isp for support.

#######################

If the router is the Cause of the issues:

Try to go to Dlink.com and flash the newest firm ware to the router.

If that dosen't resolve it you may need to get a new router. I recomend a linksys router as they tend to last about 3-5 years.

My computer does not have a 9 point serial port so i had to use a usb adapter instead. I can't communicate to the plc though. any suggestions?

The 9 pin serial port, dosen;t always have all the "lines" that are in the 15 pin. (obviously) normally ya need Tx, RX RTS, CTS. You need to find out exactly what lines are needed. Make sure via metering that they are all there. Also it may need to cross-over ie: Tx goes to Rx and Rx goes to Tx. Try using a Null Modem. OR try a USB to 9 pin Din serial adapter.

Window7 crache connecting usb fax modem

I expect it is a problem with your USB Driver, Get an updated driver for your USB slots. (either from motherboard manufacturer or USB manufacturer if it is a USB "card")
Even default or old drivers might work Try a few different USB drivers - a new one, the reccomended one, the original one...
(good idea is to use a ps/2 mouse and keyboard since your usb will be going on and off while you're working, it can be hard to click YES when you're keyboard AND mouse aren't working ;-)
if it still dont work...
Can you set any of your USB slots to work in USB 1.0 instead of 2.0, there could be an option in bios, maybe it will run the "OLD" modem in an OLD mode?
