If the OneTouch does not appear in My Computer or cannot befound by Maxtor Manager, right click on My Computer icon and select Properties,Device Manager, Disc drives, and expand Disc Drives.
There may be ayellow overlay over Maxtor drive, to show it has a problem, so right click onit and select 'Choose drivers for this device' to reinstall them.
Without goingonline they seem to be found and reinstalled from somewhere locally on the PC and I hope this willdo the trick.
Also in case this helps, I don't find the OneTouch (Maxtor Manager) software appears when the driveis plugged in, so I think this is normal too.
You should look for an icon (a capital M within a blue disc) for Maxtor Managerin the taskbar, at the bottom right of the PC's screen.
Right clicking on this icon, (capital M), should bring up awindow with Maxtor Manager at the top.
Then click on the text 'Maxtor Manager' to open the program's window.
Open My Computer
Note the drive-letter assigned to the Maxtor
Close My Computer
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
If the drive-letter was 'E:', type 'E:'
Press Enter
Type ATTRIB -H -R -S *
Press Enter
Open My Computer
Double-click the icon for the Maxtor
Does it still show "zero" files/folders?
Does it show a 'FOUND' folder?
What file(s) are in that folder?
I believe what happened is that when the wrong adapter was connected it damaged some of the electronics inside. Specifically I would guess some filtering capacitors. You would need to open it to fix it. If you need the data I would think that the drive inside would still work so you could take it out and get the data off of it. Otherwise I would see about sending it back for warranty replacement.
