Hello Markbutler1,
If you say it does read other CDs i dont think the lense is the problem, but anyway give it a try to clean is as Benimur say.
By the way, do you have that problem with one or more than one DVD? Have you tried the DVD that isnt being recognized on another DVD player or computer?
Hi,
Initially, pls try using a CD lens cleaner similar to those used in computer CD ROMs. it is normally readily available from most computer shoppes. The idea is to clean the laser pickup/eye/lens. Should cleaning be not corrective, it may be necessary to open the unit for a look & see or manual cleaning the insides.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
Hi again,Appreciate the postback/comment. There are versions that have dual lens while most would have a single lens with dual optics for CD and another for DVD. If cleaning did not correct the problem then we have to check for other possibilities.
if the DVD discs have been used before on the same machine and now will not play, then probable lens alignment/replacement required;
if DVD discs are new and have not been tried before but works in other DVD players, then as you posted, regional lock;
if ever since the acquisition of the Teac, no DVDs play, then it is possibly a manufacturing defect.If the unit is fairly new, then your best bet would be to seek the services of an authorized service center or bring your concern to the attention of the point of purchase.
If the unit is no longer under warranty, you may need to avail of the services of a qualified professional. If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), may I make a friendly suggestion, purchase a standalone DVD player. This option may be more to your advantage considering other factors like cost of repair/parts, time element.
and to my knowledge, it is regionally locked. The TV System is PAL B/G
