Apparently this particular printer is no longer on the market. The 1270 is listed and appears to be the same printer except it's white instead of black. The cartridges listed for that printer arelexmark 16, 17, 26, or 27.

There are a few things you can try. First run the printers cleaning software that was installed.
In a windows XP operating system, Click the start button, than slide to and click on Printers and Faxes. Your default printer will have a check mark to the right of the printer icon. Right click on that icon. A pop-up window will open, slide down and left click on "Properties". Than click on "Printing Preferences". Next, Click on the "Services Tab". Than, click "Service this device". You should be able to run the, "Clean the Print Cartridges". After the printer finishes cleaning, print a test page. If this helped but not enough than manually clean the ink cartridge' (s). Remove one ink cartridge and lay it onto a few paper towels. Take a clean lint free cloth and dampen it with some water. With the print heads facing down slide it across the dampen cloth a couple of times. Now clean out the ink carriage. Dampen some cotton swabs and clean the inside of the carriage. Use dry cotton swabs to dry the carriage. When you look into the carriage you'll find a copper plate with dimples. Use a drop or two of house hold alcohol and wipe the surface of the copper. Re-insert your ink cartridge. Repeat for the other cartridge and carriage.
Water breaks down any dried ink. The alcohol removes oils. Below is a link to Lexmark;

In your printer driver, select the highest dpi setting and the correct paper setting for your type of printer:

Iron-ons are very waxy and the ink may not adhere if not put on thickly. Bellow are some suggested printer settings. For the best results check your printer manual or with your printer's manufacture. CANON: T-shirt transfers.
EPSON: High quality glossy paper or special coated paper, depending on the model.
HEWLETT-PACKARD: High quality glossy paper.
Lexmark: T-shirt transfers.
IMPORTANT: Then set the paper thickness lever on your printer for standard paper. You want the ink nozzles very close to the page.
