There can be many reasons for the noise but if you can pour some water on the fan belt and the AC belt while the engine is started and if the noise drops off then the belt can be faulty. Also check the pulley idler, check the water pump. If not there can be faulty timing chain , idler or within the engine.

buy a mechanics stethoscope at the auto supply.it is well worth the money.
Have a listen to the pulleys. do not touch moving parts!
just the stationary bolts.
listen to the alternator as well. an alternator can make alot of noise if the bearings are gone.

Grinding Noise

sounds like the light engine there are alot of problems with the light engines and quite a few have had a grinding noise. The only other possibility would be the color wheel. But I would lean heavier toward the light engine being the fault.
