Can you hook the computer up to an external monitor? If you have a desktop monitor that you can hook it too it could help determine if the LCD panel has failed.
When you turn on the computer, if you can see the harddrive light flickering/blinking then the computer is going thru the motions to boot up and it is just a visual issue. Purhaps your video card has failed. I know that HP / Compaq has had problems in the past with the Nvidia GPU seperating from the motherboard when they get too hot and the screen will go blank.
Try to hook to a external monitor and let me know your prognosis.
This could be many problems, first try connnecting to an external display if it works your inverter or monitor needs repaced. make sure your memory is seated properly, if you have two sticks take one out and reboot, then replace it and take the other one out and try that. if no luck change out the cmos battery, can you hear fan and see any hard drive activity. if this was hepful please vote thank you.
