Hello, what you are hearing is the speaker.
The speaker needs to be adjusted.
This entails removing the left side cover as you face the printer.
Make sure the power plug is removed before proceeding.
Theres on black scew on the rear side of the cover.
Theres a clip underneath that needs to be depressed.
The cover should peel away, from rear to front.
You will see the speaker, its held in by one screw holding the bracket.
Try loosening the screw and turn the speaker a bit.
It's a bit of trial and error to find the sweet spot.
Be aware of the terminals of the speaker dont short em out.
Good Luck!!
It is correct that you are hearing the speaker, but re-positioning the speaker probably will not help. In some very rare cases, the speaker mounting brackets seem to develop a sympathetic vibration, but more likely, what you are hearing (as hard as this is to believe) is feedback from the power supply being broadcast through the speaker. Great product design, huh? If you do not use the fax function, then you can solve the problem very simply by unplugging the white speaker lead plug from the control board behind the panel on the left side of the printer. This requires removing six screws, two from the back and four from the bottom of the printer. This should only be done by someone who is gentle & at least minimally skilled with electronic devices. Before you attempt this, make sure the printer is unplugged (obviously). Keep in mind that the side panel cannot be removed while the power cord and printer cable are plugged in. Everything is sort of interlocking and snapped together, so be careful not to break any tabs off during dis-assembly or reassembly. I fixed my printer as described above and it is now blissfully silent.
