Helpp "Does the wash tub spin freely by hand? If the tub does NOT spin by hand, the rear tub bearings may have seized up or something could be bound around the spin basket shaft (I've seen this one before). Let's hope it's not this problem." I saw your post here, and I think this is exactly my problem. I took the belt off and the motor spins freely but the drum does not. What now? Marisa :)

The tub does feel like there is something catching it because it will turn slighty, then it feels like it's getting caught up. I'm told not to touch it because I'm a 30 year old single mom. But I fixed it once when there was a drain problem and I think I can do it again, with help of course. Anyway you've been great help. What should I do if something is caught?

    :) Marisa (:

If you have removed the drive belt from the rear pulley and the inner spin basket does not spin freely, you either have a drum bearing seized up on you, or something binding between the spin basket (stainless steel tub) and the outer tub shell. First, you need to reach inside the wash tub with the washer empty. Place the palm of your hand at the 12 o'clock position and push straight up. There shouldn't be any play in the spin basket. If you can feel the basket wobble up and down, you have either a bearing problem, or a spin basket support (spider arm) broken on the back of the spin basket. If there is no play at all, you probably have something caught. Small articles of clothing can sometimes get pulled between the tubs and usually ends up around the support shaft in the rear. This will obstruct the basket from spinning freely and could eventually cause damage to the drive motor, spin basket and/or tub bearings. You can use the instructions for replacing a rear tub bearing that I have posted under my Tip and Tricks for instructions on how to disassemble and inspect the tub. The bearing may not be bad, but you still need to check to see if anything is binding the spin basket against the tub shell and inspect the spin basket supports. Unfortunately, you have to disassemble the washer to be able to inspect any of these items I mention. I hope this helps you.

I know you said you've fixed the washer before, but this problem is a whole new ballgame. This is not a simple repair job even for the seasoned appliance repairman. I'm not trying to discourage you but you need to take a look at the following link to see what is involved in trying to separate the wash tub just to inspect it:

    http://www.fixya.com/support/r752855-rep...

Small articles of clothing like bra straps, underwear, socks, bikini tops, thongs, etc., have been known to get caught between the inner spin basket and outer wash tub shell. That's why it is recommended that you use small garment bags fro small things. They usually end up stuck somewhere near the support shaft in the rear and will cause the tub to bind and not turn. You still have to disassemble the washer to get to it. That is the unfortunate news about the way these front loaders are designed.

Check to see if your water pump is spinning. It could be seized up and the burning smell could be the belt spinning on the seized pulley. Good luck Friend.

The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. If the bearing is getting out of its way then its faulty weak motor causing this.Check out both the bearing and the motor. Front loader wont spin

Hi,

Does the wash tub spin freely by hand? If the tub does NOT spin by hand, the rear tub bearings may have seized up or something could be bound around the spin basket shaft (I've seen this one before). Let's hope it's not this problem.
If the tub DOES spin...have you checked to see if the drive belt was still on (sorry...I have to ask that question. I'm not trying to insult your intelligence here, but I have seen this one too).
Do you have the tech sheet that came with the washer? It's located behind the lower panel under the door, or taped to one of the interior cabinet walls. This tech sheet will explain to how to troubleshoot the symptoms you are describing. I suspect you may have a bad motor control unit (MCU) or bad motor. There are several voltage and resistance readings that you will need to perform in order to isolate the problem. It's odd, however, that diagnostics does not pick up any error codes. Normally, an error code will be generated if there was a no spin problem. It just doesn't make sense...Please post back and let me know.

Maytag neptune top load bearings seized in drum pulley , freed bearings and greased.now drum spins free but hard time to start turning is it possible motor trouble ?

I’m an owner not a repair person but I will pass on my FAV6800AW Clutch issue experience.

With an empty Wash Basket open the lid and with one finger (pinky) you should be able to rotate the wash basket with little rotational resistance. I’m not sure how else to describe normal Wash Basket CCW rotational resistance in the Spin direction of the system. In my eyes any more resistance than that would indicate some binding in the system. If the roller clutches were seized as you describe I would replace the clutch but lets discuss further.

How much CCW rotational resistance did you detect with the clutch out? Did you follow this post for the One-Way Roller clutch bearing clean up? In that post I discuss checking for CCW rotational resistance prior to removing the Clutch. Does your FAV6800AW use the upper Roller Clutch Bearing Ring as I show in this post? If so what condition was it in?

The Outer Tub bearings may be adding to the CCW rotational resistance (Leaking Tub Seal). You could remove the belt off the Clutch pulley the motor should spin freely by hand and I feel you will find that is not causing the increased CCW rotational resistance with the above check.

I would drop the clutch out again and check the Wash Basket CCW rotational resistance. That would give me a feel if the Outer Tub bearings are adding to the CCW rotational resistance. If the Wash Basket rotates CCW freely I would replace the clutch with the one I recommend in this post.

Post back if you have questions and maybe we can have another forum member speak to this issue. I could be over looking something in troubleshooting. Good Luck

Clotes come out soaked

The spin bearing or basket drive maybe worn or seized. Lubrication maybe needed. The motor starting torque is not sufficient to spin the tub during start-up. Check also the motor rotor. When turned by hand, it must spin freely. Lubricate if necessary. Otherwise the bearings/bushings are worn out and needs alignment or replacement. You may need the service of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Washer vibrates terribly loud on high speed spin cycle

Either bad motor, motor bearing, tub bearing or idler pulley (also broken motor mount). Unplug unit. Spin tub by hand. Try and feel if spins freely. If direct drive unit (no belts). Most likely tub bearing or motor. Remove rear panel. Inspect for damage (broken mounting parts). Turn tub by hand. Look for malfunction.

Whirlpool Duet front loader - won't spin

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too. If all these don't solve problem, check your pump.

Rate me pl.....if helped. Click on 'thanks for trying' if not helped, your prob will be back for someone else to solve.
