My dyson DC 59 Motorhead works fine for a period of time then just quits. The run time seems unusually short and does not slowly lose power but stops abruptly. What is the problem?

Modern lithium Ion rechargeable batteries don't slow down as they discharge, they run full appliance and then just boom they are dead. You need a new battery

Motor stops and won't restart until a cool down

Bushings or bearings in the motor are no longer good, heat up as the motor turns and seize up.
They are probably replaceable but if the shafts are worn or there is other damage to the bearing/bushing holders then you'll have to replace that too and you might consider getting a whole new vacuum for the cost.
Of course, unplug it before attempting to take it apart.

Vacuum runs for 5 minutes ,then shuts down. Will restart after 15 minutes, then does same thing.

sounds like a built in feature. It is overheating, bad wire or circuit possible

I have a central vacuum system. When I disconnect the hose from a wall outlet the central canister does not shut down dispite my turning off the vacuum at the handle of the hose. The only way I can get...

What I'm hearing is the canister(Not the Powerhead) portion of the unit is running all the time unless you unplug it. this problem could be caused by a short in one of your low voltage lines running through the house. To determine that just unplug one/both low voltage lines from the canister, and plug it back into the recepticle. If it doesn't start up then you figured out that it is in the house somewhere and not the unit. If it is in the house I would check for water in the valves, or you're just gonna have to chase down the short. If the unit is still running with the low voltage wires disconnected then it is probably the relay on the board, which means you will need a new board unless you're expereinced at soldering and want give it a try replacing just the relay. Which you'll probably need a new board by the time you're done anyhow. LOL

Good Luck

Electrolux Canister - Stops working after 1-2 minutes.

Electrolux Canister - Stops working after 1-2...
Our vac works for a short time, then shuts off and makes clicking noise as if trying to restart again. Works after cooling for a while but for another very short time. Your suggestion on fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure
I would advise that it could be a thermal switch or a regular switch that the thermal switch is over heating and needs replacement – there are small hoses in the door section that could have been pinched or kinked and it stopping the air flow from the vacuum – also check for a clogged or plugged vacuum hose, a full vacuum bag or a dirty vacuum filter. Check the thermal switch or reg switch or the hoses in the door. Or feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or call the factory @ the phone number listed below:

Temperature light keeps coming on

The whine tells you taht the bearings are bad. Now they may be putting a drag on the armature and causing it to shut down after getting hot. You will have to replace the motor.

Vacuum shuts down after a short time and needs to cool off before being restarted.

Could be the protector, it usually is located by the motor. But I am sure that this has a 1 year warranty on it, so if it is less then that, take it in for warranty service. But it also could be that you have a clogged filter, hose is clogged, or the dirt inlet by the brush roll is clogged. A clog will cause the motor to overheat and shut down until it is cleared.

Hoover u5720-900 quits running and restarts again after some time

There is one more filter under where the collection tank & Hepa filter sits -- there is one screw that holds the cover down - remove that filter and clean it that will help. I also find I need to vacuum the hepa filter as well- it is too expensive to replace all the time. The Hepa filter can be placed inside a plastic bag and shaken really good to get the dust off of it
