This is a solution, probably resolve your problems as well, for converting VHS to DVD, its a tip I posted some time ago, might help you out:-
There appears to be quite a few problems with people trying to convert their video tapes to DVD using a PC and propriety converters, editing programmes etc.
Friends have also has such issues, lip synch being one of the most prolific.
I've successfully converted mine, without too much issue and managed to avoid these issues.
I hook up my VHS recorder with a
DVD recorder which also has a HDD. Daisy chaining it on to a TV to monitor. All with scart leads.
Play the tape, record to the DVD hard drive. Finally edit and dub to DVD.
