Can lexmark x4650 be set to recognize fax?

For more details on how to setup your Lexmark X4650 printer for faxing, please refer to the User's Guide found on the Lexmark website.
Additional info:If you have an answering on the same line as your fax:

To make sure the printer picks up incoming faxes, set Auto Answer to On, and then set the printer to pick up after a greater number of rings than the answering machine. For example, if the answering machine picks up calls after four rings, then set the printer to pick up after six rings. This way, the answering machine picks up calls first and your voice calls are received. If the call is a fax, then the printer detects the fax signal on the line and takes over the call.

If you have a voicemail feature associated in the same line as your fax:

Voice mail and fax can share the same telephone line if you subscribe to a distinctive ring service offered by your telephone company. This feature allows you to have multiple telephone numbers on one telephone line. Each telephone number has a designated ring pattern (single ring, double ring, triple ring, or double and triple ring). The different ring patterns let you know which telephone number was dialed, and which device you should use to answer the call.

If you do not have distinctive ring service, then set the printer to receive faxes manually (Auto Answer Off). This setting lets you receive both voice calls and fax calls, but works best if you use voice mail more often. You need to turn off voice mail whenever you are expecting a fax.

Scanned images are too large to upload, are there settings I can change? Thanks!

Make sure the Lexmark X4650 printer driver is updated. You can update your printer driver by downloading and installing the downloadable driver from the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/iofMNC. Select your operating system, download and execute the file. Try to scan again and see the difference.
You can also try to lower the scan resolution (dpi setting) on your computer by launching the Lexmark Productivity Studio application. Select Scan > on the "What are you scanning?" screen, click Custom Settings > decrease the dpi setting to 200 or 150. Try to scan again.
You may also use third party scan softwares to decrease the scan file size if results are still too large for you.

I am scanning photos to my computer from a Lexmark x4650 but it is opening up as a pdf doc. How do I get the scanned photo to be a jpeg?

Hello,

When you save the image in the 'Save Image' dialog is there a pull down list that says 'Save as file type'? Located just below where you enter the file name. If there is pull it down and select jpg as the file type.

I've been asked for a PIN # to scan a document

With most devices that ask for a PIN # there are a few standard pin #'s. 0000 is the most common followed by 1234 and rarely 1111 & 9999. If these do not work it may be that you had set a pin # initially and have forgotten it. In this case you would need to look in the manual to see how to reset the pin. If you don't have one you can look online for one on Lexmark's site. Just type in your model # on their site. Good luck

How to find the PIN number to scan for a Lexmark X4650

Hello,
Unless you have setup a PIN for scanning when you installed the printer the default PIN is 0000. If you setup a pin and don't remember, go to the Lexmark Productivity Studio, click on setup and diagnose printer, then on left side select Advanced, another screen will pop up click on Networking and another screen will appaer at the bottom there is a link that reads Change your PC name and PIN for network scanning, click there and you should be able to see and/or change the PIN.
Good Luck and don't forget to rate this answer.

Lexmark, scanner asks for pin code and won't scan without it.

This drove me mad for about 2 hours (I've just experienced the same problem), but have finally found the solution!

Firstly, it depends on what Lexmark you have (as different printers use different software)...

For my Lexmark which is an S600, I went into the program 'Lexmark home' which was in the lexmark folder on the start menu and in my lexmark software folder, went to 'settings' and then 'Network computer name'. From here you can set the pin.

According to people experiencing this problem with other Lexmarks, you can do this via the equivalent 'productivity suite' program through 'network settings'.

Hope this helps.
