Go under CONTROL PANEL then KEYBOARD and adjust the sensitivity. It is probably set too high, thus repeating keystrokes.

SOURCE: Gateway laptop keyboard typing incorrect letters

Windows has support for many input-languages, e.g., for keyboards made in France with accented characters,
and for the DVORAK keyboard layout (which is a complete
rearrangement of the letters on the keyboard for maximum
typing-speed).

Go into "Control Panel", and "Regional and Language" and click the "Language" tab, and switch to the "USA Keyboard".

SOURCE: locked keyboard buttons

If the wrong characters appear when you are typing or you are trying to use a keyboard that is different than the one that came with the computer, use the following steps to synchronize Windows to the type of keyboard you have:

  1. Click Start c01311982.gif , and type region into the Start Search field.
  2. Select the Keyboards and Languages tab.
  3. Click Change Keyboards .
A Text Services and Input Languages window opens.

  5. Select the keyboard(s) you want to use and click OK .

The new keyboard is added to the list of available keyboards and a keyboard icon appears on the system tray, allowing you to switch between the keyboard that you want to use with the mouse.

  6. From the Text Services and Input Languages window, select the new keyboard in the list and click Move up until it is first in the list. This makes it the default keyboard.

  7. Click OK . You can now use the new keyboard. If you find that the new keyboard works well and you do not want to use the other keyboard, repeat these steps and Remove the keyboard that you do not want from the General tab of the Text Services and Input Languages window.

Keyboard double letter

Likely just a bad keyboard. Good news is that keyboard are really cheap for most laptops.

Viruses can do all kinds of weird things, they usually don't mess with the operation of the keyboard though.

I am having trouble when I try to type double letters....like the t in letter - it's like the second t is sticking. It is doing it with all the letters that are consecutive....been, etc.

That's strange never seen this before, have you've tried a different keyboard to see if another keyboard works. If another keyboard works then it is definately the keyboards problem, and it is probably easiest to just replace the keyboard. You could try cleaning the keyboard as well look online for the proper way to clean a keyboard.

My keyboard is typing double letters. I have rebooted, changed batteries. But still typing double. reverted to usb keyboard for time being

I had this problem after changing the batteries in Logitech Cordless Internet Pro Keyboard - Model Y-RAJ56A, very frustrating.
I am using a KVM switch that only has PS2 outputs and one of the computers doesn't have PS2 connectors for both keyboard and mouse. This necessitated another mouse & receiver. Receiver will accept both mouse & keyboard but initial installation didn't include pairing the KB with the receiver, it
picked it up from the KVM.
When I changed the batteries in the keyboard I instinctively pushed the buttons to pair the receiver to the keyboard.
Wrong move!
Now the computer is receiving keyboard command from both the former 'mouse only' receiver & the KVM, creating ddoouubbllee letters. After pairing, they refused to be unpaired.
Solution was to go to Control Panel, in Device Management and disable Wireless Keyboard. Now it only receives keystrokes from the KVM.
Problem was solved.

Hope this helps, Plasticman69

My keyboard is double typing letters, i will type for example a "c" and it will type the "c" and an "e". I have a Toshiba L500D

I believe your laptop's keyboard has gone bad & needs to be replaced.
On e-bay.com, a new keyboard for your laptop model is around US$ 25 to US$ 45.

Compaq Presario C700 numbers showing up instead of letters

Either address your "Num Lock" Key keyboard or your "Fn" Key on your keyboard. Either of these, or a combination of both should solve the issue.
