Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly The F51 code is a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) feedback error. In other words the control board is not sensing any motor rotation. It is fixable but will result in the replacement of failed parts. (Sensor or electronic control board) The control board is not cheap. Hopefully you only have a failed sensor.

What does code F51 mean

Code F51 means there is a problem with the Rotor Position Sensor. This could be something as minor as a bad plug connection. However, there have been many cases of socks or other small garments being flung over the top of the tub rim and getting caught between the metal tub and the plastic tub which contains the water. The "errant" clothing keeps the tub from returning to it's original position thus preventing the Position Sensor from aligning.

I know about what you are describing. I did this job a few years ago, and as the machine gets older it becomes harder to repair. You probably have water leaking which will cause rust. If you were to do this job yourself you can find the parts on-line for under $100.00 dollars. But because you are planning on having the job done by a repairman the price sounds reasonable. Maytag washer flashes f 51

You will need to replace the RPS sensor. There is a kit available that will update that washer to the current design. Here is the kit to order.

It is probably loose or worn out.

I have a maytag top loading washer. I have a F51 message. I have no clue what that means, can anyone please help?

Hi,
F51 means you have a rotery positioning sensor error or (RPS sensor) This is clipped onto the top of the stater motor and means you will have to replace the RPS sensor if the tub is spinning smoothly by hand.
