It quits freezing completely....but if I unplug it. Then plug it back in. It works like it should. For a couple days....Almost like it switches to the defrost cycle but then does not switch back to the frost cycle. Is there a bad switch some where that I am missing

Fridge quit working a month ago, unplugged it and when i plugged it back in, it started working again. now it quits working all the time, but when i shut door firmly it starts up again and stays cold for a...

You don't say how old the frig is ... you cant have a frig run like this. On one day ... off the next ... slam the door and it works ... Either get a new frig of get this one repaired professionally. Probably best to get a new frig. I would guess minimum service call charge will be $250.00

13 month frig quit running

Here is what I would do:
I would check to see if the compressor and condenser fan motor is running.cc8d7bd.jpg If the compressor was hot to the touch that would give me a clue.
That would tell me the relay is stuck in start mode causing the compressor to get hot and quit.c6b5f66.jpg I would remove the relay and put my HS410 start pack to see if the compressor comes on and I would check if it was over amping. The amp draw should be around 1 amp. If it is running 7 or 8 amps then the compressor is shot will over heat and die.b261986.jpg The fan motor by the compressor should run when the compressor does. So if the compressor is running but not the fan then you need to look at buying a fan motor. If the fan is running but the compressor is not then you need to buy a relay. If all of that is ok I would next listen for the fan motor blowing in the freezer, no fan no cool. Lots of times fans will make a racket if ice begins to build in the evaporator.c4cad85.jpg They will get louder and louder. Then the ice will build to the point the fan won't blow.
I would need to check for a bad defrost heater or terminator if that is the case. Do this test: unplug the ice box and let it sit for 3 or 4 days till it completely thaws out. Then plug it back in. If it begins to work ok then you KNOW you have a defrost problem. Replacing the defrost thermostat and heater is not very difficult, you still need to let it thaw out to do it. Even if you called me out there and I said it was a defrost problem I would still have to leave and come back 3 days later. If you suspect it is the defrost then go ahead and clean out the ice box and let er sit for 3 days. Then until you can fix it just unplug it once a week like grandma did back in the 40s before auto defrost. That's all the smart pills I have. Post a model and I could be a bit more specific because you could have adc0c1e867.jpg or a timer a control board instead of a mercury based control and in that case their is much more to check. For instance if you had an old schoo timer,8c078f4.jpg it might be stuck in defrost. It might just take moving that timer screw forward to get it unstuck. Don't know until I see a model number. Moved frig then plugged in and ran for several days then quit, then two days later started again and then a week later quit again? Frig is a ten year old side by side Kenmore about 21 sq feet, ice maker...

If you didn't give it enough time for the oil to settle back in the compressor that could be the problem. I would try leaving it off for a day to see if it will settle down and run better.

Refrigerator and freezer quit working.

That sounds like it could be the problem. The common causes are a bad defrost heater, defrost timer or a defrost thermostat.

Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

It just quit after a couple of months of very little use.

Most likely you have a defrost problem. When you unplug it for a couple of days, it thaws out and you plug it back in and it works until it freezes up again. Possible problem ...1 of 3...defrost timer...2 of 3...defrost heater...3 of 3...defrost bi-metal.
