My ipod

The iPod is a portable music player made by Apple. As of early 2011, Apple sells four models: iPod shuffle, iPod classic, iPod nano and iPod touch. If your iPod experiences a problem such as not responding or freezing, you can reset it to see if that takes care of the problem. IPod Shuffle The iPod shuffle is the smallest iPod model, with 2GB of storage.
It has no screen and attaches to your clothing with a clip, making it well suited for exercising while listening to music.
When it doesn't respond, or if the status light is solid red, you can reset it.
Slide the three-way switch left toward the word "Off," covering the green bar. Wait 10 seconds, and then slide the switch back to reveal the green bar to turn it back on.
IPod Classic
The iPod classic has a 160GB hard drive for storing music, videos and pictures.
If it experiences a problem, you can easily reset it.
Slide the "Hold" switch to the "Hold" position and then slide it back.
Press "Menu" and the center button simultaneously on the click wheel and hold them for about six seconds, until Apple's logo appears on the screen.
IPod Nano
Apple's iPod nano has a touch-screen display and comes with 8GB or 16GB of storage, depending on the configuration.
It has a pedometer and an FM radio.
If the iPod nano doesn't respond, reset it.
Press the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Volume Down" button simultaneously and hold them until the screen gets dark, and then wait a few more seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen, followed by the home screen.
IPod Touch
The iPod touch has a touch-screen display, two cameras for shooting pictures and movies, and Wi-Fi for accessing the Internet. Its capacity ranges from 8GB to 64GB, depending on the configuration.
You can use the iPod touch to send email and make video calls, as well as play games and run applications. If the iPod touch freezes or otherwise isn't working, you can get it running again after resetting it.
Press the "On/Off-Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until Apple's logo appears on the screen.

Why does my iPod keeps turning itself on when I lock it?

iPods have no traditional on/ff switch. They power up with the slightest touch, which makes turning the iPod on as simple as touching the menu. Turning the iPod off, however, can be more tricky. Waiting for automatic shut off wastes battery life, and surfing the menus yields no way to stop the device from running. Turning off the iPod Nano, though, is almost as simple as turning it on.

Locate the "hold" or "lock" switch at the top of your iPod Nano. It will be located on the top of your device on the left side. Make sure the device is unlocked. When the device is locked, an orange bar is visible. When it is unlocked, that bar is not visible. The iPod needs to be unlocked in order to power off. Locate the "play/pause" buttons. These are located at the bottom of the control wheel. Press at the "play/pause" section of the wheel and hold for a few seconds. Your iPod will power off. Do not touch the wheel again after powering off, as this will power the device back on. Locate the "hold" or "lock" switch again. Slide the bar to the locked position so that the orange bar is visible. This will prevent your iPod from powering on in your purse or pocket and wasting battery time.

The slide bar will not slide to unlock on my ipod touch 2nd generation. I've tried restarting. It holds a charge and I can play it on my docking station. I can't use it by itself.

I had the same problem with my iPod touch 3rd Generation, the slide bar will not slide to unlock. I could however use the slide to power off at the top of the screen. I tried everything from rebooting it to a full restore and nothing worked. I finally took the Touch Screen Glass Digitizer off and the ribbon cable that connects to the board had come loose. I pluged it back in and everything worked again.

Cant unlock my ipod

What generation? What do you mean, the slide to unlock, or the screen lock? If you mean the screen lock, you should connect to iTunes, because some iPods unlock after connecting to iTunes. Otherwise you should reset it with iTunes. But then all your data will be lost. Otherwise you should try try try. You've got 10000 chances ;-) If you have an iPod Touch, you might mean the slide to unlock screen is frozen. I had that one time, after trying out spoken feedback. After that it locked the screen and the touch screen wouldn't work anymore. I couldn't do anything anymore, not unlocking, not turning off spoken feedback, not even turn off the iPod. I was lucky to find there was an update for the iPod so iTunes turned it off. Then it responded also again.
More details next time please!

When i got done chrging my ipod it froze

Important: If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.

Resolution If you experience any of the above issues, try the following steps:
  1. Toggle the Hold switch. To do this, slide the switch to Hold (an orange bar appears) and then slide it back (orange bar is hidden).
  2. Reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
    • If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    • If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect the iPod to a power source by either plugging it into an Apple iPod USB Power Adapter or directly into a computer's USB port.
  3. Let the iPod charge for at least 20 minutes. Note: If the iPod is connected to a computer, make sure the computer does not sleep, standby, or hibernate during the 20-minute charging period.
  4. After the iPod has charged for at least 20 minutes and while it is still connected to the power source, toggle the Hold switch again as in step 1.
  5. Try resetting the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
    • If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    • If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, try putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring.
  6. Try putting the iPod into disk mode.
    • While in disk mode, connect the iPod to iTunes and try to restore.
    • If the iPod is still not recognized by iTunes, the iPod should be serviced.
