I have an Acer Aspire 5315 laptop and I can't get on the internet. It shows an internet connection but won't connect. I restored the computer to the factory settings and lost everything. Still can't get on internet.

check your internet settings on the PC....

ok with laptop on goto start/ all programs/ accessories/system tools/system restore/
pick earlist date follow on screen instructions
then after restart you should be able to go on internet as normal

acer sometimes have restore system built in from memory alt plus f10 at bios screen .

Try this. go to firewall. click on exception, and then click "secure socket tunneling" this should solve the problem. If it did not work the first time unclick it again. re start computer, and re do the exception thing.

Well it sounds like either your network card is not installed or just plain dead. either way I would take it back to the retailer and have them take a look.

Yes,there is. Make a note of allowed sites on your old settings and put then in on your new settings. Or restore to the last known good point and save the settings in your documents folder and restore to your new point and import the settings from your documents.

Right click on the my network icon go to properties and click on make new connection, allow the wizard to walk you through the process from start to finish and you should be ok. Just follow the prompts.

go to the Acer website and download the drivers for your make and model laptop if you do not have  teh original driver disks that came with your computer.
If the computer has a recovery partition, check and see if one of the recovery options allows you to restore drivers only.
If your acer cannot access the internet because you do not have drivers for the direct or wireless network connections, you can still access the make and model support and drivers files from the Acer web site and burn to a CDROM or save to a jump drive to install on your laptop - or you can request a driver CD for a small $$ from Acer.

This is the only way to restore the system by switching on the laptop and before it show Acer on the press ALT + F10 in this order ALT + F10, ALT + F10 this will take you to the restore mode and from there you click on restore to factory defualt BUT if you formated the Data (d:\) drive then you have to buy vista and download the drivers from the internet

This is the only way I know to restore the OS 100% original
