1990 Ford F150 wont stay running, replce ECT and ICM ... still wont run. Water coming out of exhaust after trying to run. 5.0 w/5-speed.

  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2011

Checked the plugs looked good. Checked cap and rotor also seemed fine. The water is clear looked like condensation and had no smell to it. I only had truck for 5 weeks, it was acting up and i added dry gas / fuel injector cleaner. Seemed to clear up. then 3 days ago started bucking and skipping, now it wont stay at idle and dies under load.

Very possible bad head gasket and fowled out plugs and/or O2 sensors. Remove spark plugs and check condition of them and pull O2 sensor to see if it is green from antifreeze. Good luck.

Very possible you have water in the fuel tank. You might want to drain all the fuel out of the tank, install fresh gas and new fuel filter. If there is a lot of water in the gas tank, gas dry will not correct the whole problem then you now have gas that does not have the octane/combustionability to maintain the vehicle to run properly. Good luck.

How to disconnect speedometer cable from transmission on 1990 ford f150?

unscrew the cable from the transmission. if you can`t unscrew it,unbolt the lock bolt that holds the little bar which keeps the speedometer cable in place and remove the speedometer driven gear assembly from the transmission. the gear is plastic and is what the cable is driven by.

1990 ford F150 misfire pore running dies

Hey i recently bought a 1990 ford 5.0L 5 speed. Clutch safety switch was not working proper, bypassed the safety switch, truck was running rough but when you take the wire off of the small top post of the solenoid and apply it to the positive terminal of the solinoid it runs well. After tracing the wire i found that by applying that wire to the positive termina i get power to what i believe is the "run" wire in the TFI plug which is plugged into the distributor. it is the third wire from the right side of the plug when your looking at it with it unplugged facing yourself. Still trying to track down where this wire runs to but if i find out ill let you know sounds like we may have the same problem

My 1990 f150 302 5 speed starts up but wont stay idling unless i keep it running myself

clean the idle air control valve and pcv valve with spray carb cleaner. The IAC controls idle speed but gets gummed up. The pcv valve may cause a vacuum leak as well so clean or replace. And lastly clean the throttle bore and butterfly valve using an old toothbrush and some towels. Check the electrical connection at the IAC for security and corrosion and clean as needed.

Truck runs rough

Sounds like one of your chambers isn't firing. Run your car for a few minutes, shut it off then pull your plugs one at a time and see if one of them is wet. Might just need a new plug.

Ignition

First try to step on gas about one quarter throttle then try to start. If it starts like that I would change the Idle Air Control valve.
