Sounds to me as though one of your memory modules have failed inside the tower. You can perform a memory test so it would be worth researching that. Try this site http://www.memtest86.com/. You need to know if you pc is 32 or 64 bit first. you can find this by going to Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools and finally, System information, in that order. Once you know, you can look for the correct memtest to download.
One possiblilty is the VGA card may be bad. Try installing just the wireless card and booting your system, if it works install the VGA card. The other option, if you have not done so is to first install the software that came with each card and then install the hardware and reboot.
It is the power supply In hp the power supply they use does not die on you completely; it will start but not feed the computer. So change it to generic brand and every thing will work fine.
