I just downloaded the windows 7 upgrade on my acer netbook and now I can't get my wireless connection to work. (the old OS was XP) I have tried re-installing the driver but no luck! Help!

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2011

The connections are visable...some of the time. When they are, I can connect. (I know, this sounds like maybe there is a problem with the router, but I'm connected on another laptop right now and my netbook is stiil unable to find any networks...) I was able to install the drivers, and if I try to update it tells me they are up to date... Trying to get online with a wired connection didn't work either...

Please explain the issue a bit more.

Are you not able to find the wireless signal at all now or they are visible but you are not able to connect?

If they are not visible, then have you checked the device manager and see if there is any wi-fi card mentioned under Network Adapters or not or is there any question mark or exclamation mark on it or not?

Have you tried booting the computer into the safe mode with networking and see if it works there or not? wired or wireless?

~To download drivers and specific software;

Always get your drivers from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop.

If you were to log on to the acer.com web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

If the driver is not available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are installing.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

Windows7 however, will run in XP compatible mode if you install that part of the programme. (Win7 Ultimate)

I hope this helps.

Acer aspire 5310 Wireless LAN indicator light on windows 7

That sort of comes with a OS upgrade, in upgrades from XP to Win 7, I'm supprised that's the only thing that is a issue. I upgraded a old gateway (2005) from XP to Win 7 Pro N 64bit. and had some hardware issues to deal with. Consider yourself lucky. You can get use to it or search endlessly for a fix. Try the Acer forums, you may run across the issue.

Acer aspire one aoa150-1283 up grade Win XP to windows 7

Win 7 will use more resources and make it slower. It is a nice netbook, but still a netbook. Plus you need to consider drivers for, LAN, sound, and video.

Try testing with Win 7 advisor,

I am now using the Lenovo S100 netbook. I downgrade the OS from Windows 7 Starter to Windows XP. However, after I reintalled the XP, I cannot install the driver for my Wireless Lan. even I have download...

your down grade is the problem
win xp and win 7 are no longer supported by Microsoft so any blips in the loading process are not fixed on line
Microsoft are pushing hard for everybody to use win 10 and company statements are saying that win 8 and later version will also not be supported in a few years time
it is possible that in downloading the driver from the manufacturer site (best idea) it is possible that you missed the bit ( suitable for win os win 7 ,8 vista, 10 ) that win xp was not on the list

From windows xp i upgrade my OS to windows 7 Ultimate, then to my surprise, the wireless connection of my netbook was lost. how can i deal with this?

Making the assumption that Acer has windows 7 drivers (I have not checked), you would use another computer, go to their site and download the drivers. Sometimes you have to download them one at a time, sometimes you can choose which drivers you need and download them all. If you are lucky, download them to a thumb drive, plug into the Acer, Depending on how the drivers were written, if they have an installation program, run it to install. Otherwise you have have to tell the computer that you have new hardware which needs to be installed. When asked for the location of the drivers, you would navigate to your thumb drive.

You can go to the device manager to check for any exclamation marks on devices indicating they are not properly installed or not working. Hopefully after you find the win7 drivers for your network card, that will no longer be the case.

This is kind of a generic answer, hope it helps

Can i update window 7 ? now i hv window XP is there any effect of my files available in system during downloading wndow7

Windows 7 does not allow an upgrade from Windows XP. You would have to upgrade to Vista first and then on to 7. Also, it depends on which Vista you have that will determine which Windows 7 you can upgrade to. If you have Vista Home basic for instance, you cannot upgrade to Windows 7 Premium or professional. It is really screwed up. You can however do a clean install but you will lose all your old files unless you back them up on an external drive before running the new OS.

Windows 7 wireless drivers

If you can try Stephan's solution first.
If that does not work try looking at the actual manufacturer's web site for your wireless card. They may have them out before Asus does.

WLAN problem

Hi,
Yes this is an OS problem. Mostly laptop vendors like ACER expects that the OS is Vista or Windows 7.

And these OS have default drivers of WLAN but unfortunately Windows XP don't have these drivers.

So you have only two options.
Either to upgrade your OS or to search for valid drivers of WLAN of Win-XP on Acer's website.

Please rate this solution properly if it was helpful to you.

With Regards,
Ankit
