Your backlight is probably faulty and requires repair.
how much does the repair for a backlight cost?
First, you need to confirm that the backlight is the problem. You can do this by shining a torch close to the screen and look for a very faint picture. If you can see a faint picture where the torch is shining then this idicates that the LCD is working but the backlight is not on. The backlight is provided by a number of CCFL tubes (cold cathode flourescent lamp) and these require a high voltage with alternating current. The circuit that drives the CCFL tubes can either be repaired or replaced. Depending on the type of fault, it may be a simple repair such as replacing a capacitor. If one or more inverters are faulty then it is usually easier to replace the complete circuit. A replacement circuit would probably be about £20 to £30 (UK pounds - convert to your currency). The replacement control board will a generic or universal one, and so will not be a simple direct replacement. It will require some re-wiring. If you have little or no electronics experience then you will need to get an engineer to fix it for you, in which case you will need to pay labour costs as well. It may be uneconomical for you to get it repaired by a tv repair engineer.
