I see that you are hearing a grinding noise before the spin cycle in your Frigidaire washer, model# GLET1031CS0. A certain amount of "grinding" or gear sounds are normal in a heavy-duty washer. with it empty need to look at the bottom of the unit and see if the pulley and belt setup is bad.. my sisters un it broke the pulley and hers is newer..seems they dont make them to last anymore..

What is the model number of your unit?

you most probably have either a bad brake/clutch mechanism or a bad transmission.  

My whirlpool heavy duty 2 speed 7 cycle washer machine stopped working, It fills up and aggitates for the first cycle then when it should drain and spin it doesnt drain nor spin

You need to check the lid switch for continuity. A bad lid switch will prevent this machine from agitating or spinning.

you have a broken drive coupling.
it probably wont agitate or spin, but will fill and drain.
you need to remove 2 screws from the control panel, hinge it back and then remove the 2 brass colored clips that hold the cabinet to the base. once you do then pull the entire cabinet forwards to a 45 degree angle and pull it off the base.
then pull the 2 clips off pump and then 2 more on the motor. that will allow you to get to the drive coupling. you will find it to be broken.
replace it with part number 285753a for about 15-20 bucks.

It sounds like the agitator gripping teeth are worn out. To check this, take the agitator cap off with a strong knife or flat-head screw driver, pull the cap off and check the plastice teeth and four plastic hooks that grab the teeth. If they are worn out, then you will have to replace the agitator. To replace it, you will see a nut that is between the circlular teeth. Unscrew the nut and pull the agitator up hard.

check the transmission out or it can be a clutch problem
