Anyway, you scan start by removing the HDD, just to secure your data in the first place. Unscrew the HDD lid on the bottom, remove it and then push the HDD using the plastic tongue in there. Then, open the processor and memory lid on the bottom of the notebook to disconnect the Wi-Fi antenna cables from the Wi-Fi module (watch out here, there are LOTS of screws). There are three small cables running from the LCD to the Wi-Fi module (white, gray and black). Memorize or take a note where they are plugged (the slots are numbered 1 to 3) and unplug them. Then, remove the LCD by taking out the plastic hinge casings on both sides. Disconnect the cables from the notebook, then unscrew the hinges from the bottom case (where you case is broken). Now, carefully remove the LCD apart from the case (remember that there is still one cable on the bottom, which you cannot take out due to the cooler blocking the way). You can already remove the three screws which are beneath the LCD. Now, remove the keyboard. First, there is a screw in the bottom lid indicated with a "K". Unscrew it (if you already didn't). Now, get a flat head screwdriver. Take a look on the top side of the keyboard and you'll notice there are four "locks" that keep the keyboard into place. you have to use the flat head screwdriver to push them, then level it to bring the keyboard up. Do this with all four locks and the keyboard will pop out. Pull it out carefully, as there is a flat cable running into the case. Pull out the flat cable lock on the case and the flat cable will be released. There is another flat cable acessible where the keyboard was that connects the trackpad to the mainboard. Remove it the same way. Now, remove the screw where the keyboard was. Turn the notebook to the bottom again, remove the dummy plastic SD and Express card. There are two screws under the place the bottom lid was, the two nearer to the "K" indicated screw and near the DVD drive. Unscrew them and pull the DVD drive out. Take out the battery also, if it's still there. Now, remove every single screw you can see on the case (you can check out on the spare case which ones really go into the case, to be sure which ones to take out). After I messed up my screws, I'd give a hint that it's a good idea to note down or put in the holes of the spare case where each one goes. After that, pull the top case out. It should come out with a little bit of pressure. In case it doesn't, it's quite possible you're missing screws somewhere. It will come out completely. Now, there are some more screws (yes, more screws) fixing the motherboard to the bottom case, and some tape too. Unscrew them and take the tape out. There's also a connection to the case you must take out, and there's a small module under the place the HDD was that is glued and you must remove it. There's also a cable taped under aluminium conductive tape you must take out. Do not mess with the aluminium tape, if your spare part came like mine, you probably don't have another one of those.

Now, you must have the motherboard in your hands, the bottom case taken apart. I would put the screws into the broken bottom case before reassembling just to assure you won't miss any of them. Now, remount the motherboard on the new bottom case. Screw the LCD module, put the cables coming from the case on the board, and glue the module under the HDD using the addhesive that comes in the new bottom case. Don't forget to put the aluminium tape back on. Now, put the top case back on and start by screwing the top screws that stay under the LCD and under the keyboard back on. Turn it over and put all the screws of the bottom case back on. Reinsert the DVD drive and the dummy card. Now, reinsert the LCD into place, screw the hinges onto the bottom case and replug the cables. Turn the notebook over and replug the three cables from the Wi-Fi antenna (you should have noted down where each goes, and if you forgot, they must be numbered like "1 3 2", and at least in mine it was 1- Black, 3- Grey, 2- White). Turn it to top again and put the screw on the place where the keyboard lies. Reinsert the keyboard. First, plug the flat cables both from the trackpad and the keyboard. Then, insert the keyboard and "click" it into place. Turn it over again and screw all the rest of the screws that lie under the CPU and memory lid. Reinsert the lid and screw it back. Now, reinsert your HDD and screw its lid back on.

have your laptop professionally cleaned by a reputable service center.dust and debris build up under the keys can prevent them from working properly. Alternately, if you dropped the machine, it is possible you have partially dislodged the cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard

One letter is not working on my keyboard

One moment you are typing on your computer keyboard as usual, when suddenly a key sticks or does not produce a character on the screen. Perhaps you have a group of keys that suddenly stop working. Laptop and desktop keyboards alike can stop functioning due to a number of causes, most of which can be resolved by troubleshooting. Knowing how to fix some keyboard keys that do not work can save you time, and save you the cost of buying a new keyboard.

Update the device driver for your keyboard by going to the manufacturer's website of your keyboard, and then download and install the latest driver matching the brand and model number of your keyboard. Disconnect your keyboard from your computer and inspect the pins in the keyboard connector if you have a PS/2 connector. The PS/2 connector for your keyboard has six pins, which connect into a PS/2 port of your personal computer, to allow for communication to and from your keyboard. Straighten any bent pins you may find, by gently using a ballpoint pen. Y ou must replace your keyboard if you see broken pins. Try testing your keys using a different application, such as another word processing program. Keys like the function keys on your keyboard labeled F1 through F12 may not work in one application but will work fine in another. b> Clean Under Desktop Keys b> Disconnect your standard desktop keyboard, then press down on a key not working. Slip a car key or a flathead screwdriver underneath the key. Twist the screwdriver or car key until the keyboard key pops off. Use a damp cloth, moist cotton swabs or compressed air to remove dust, hair, and food crumbs under the key. Use only water or rubbing alcohol to moisten the cloth and cotton swabs other cleaners can damage the plastic of your computer. Position and press down on the key to snap it into place. Repeat this for all of the keys to clean underneath them, if necessary. b> Clean Under Laptop Keys b> Turn your laptop off, then use a flathead screwdriver or knife under a key corner, prying the key off gently. You will hear a snap as the key detaches. Remove the key retainer remaining on your laptop using your knife or screwdriver under the corner, then popping it off with a gentle twist. Remove the space bar by pulling it off after your insert the screwdriver or knife underneath the bar. Clean underneath your laptop keys using cotton swabs or a soft cloth dampened with water or alcohol. You can also use compressed air to remove dust, hair and other debris. Replace your laptop keys by placing the key retainer into position. If you cannot remember the position, copy another retainer's position by removing another key. Insert the keypad into the retainer, then position the key over the retainer while pressing down on the key. You should hear the key snap into place. Place your laptop's space bar over the space bar slots, then snap it into place.

My keyboard wont type

Restore a Laptop Keyboard b> When a keyboard stops working, has odd key letters, stuck keys and non-functioning keys for no reason at all, the laptop may have an easy fix solution. However, if liquid spilled on the laptop or the laptop was dropped and as, a consequence, the keyboard doesn't work, or the keyboard device has simply failed, fixing the problem may require a more involved laptop keyboard replacement.

Click start control panel keyboard hardware make sure you have the right keyboard selected or you might have uninstall the keyboard then restart your computer then reinstall it and its drivers Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to keyboard you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click update driver if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it. If its still not working Tap the "Alt" and "Shift" keys simultaneously if you are pressing one keyboard key and getting a different symbol or letter. This will reset the keyboard defaults on some laptops. Press the "Ctrl" key and tap the "Shift" key simultaneously if the procedure in Step 1 did not work. Press the "Fn" and one of the "F" keys to disable the "Num Lock." Different laptops use different "F" keys to disable the "Num Lock." Toggle each "F" key and press the "Fn" key at the same time to find the right key combination. Check your laptop manual to find the right key combination. Press the "Fn" key and the blue "NumLock" key simultaneously if the keyboard is typing numbers instead of letters or wrong letter keys and the above steps did not solve the problem. b> Keyboard Maintenance b> Blow compressed air in the cracks and crevices of the laptop keyboard. Sometimes dust and debris can cause keys to lock, making such keys non-functional. Disconnect the laptop from the power outlet and remove the battery. Make the tip of a cotton swab as thin as possible by rolling it between your finger tips. Dip the thinned cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and clean the crevices of the keyboard with the cotton swab. Continue cleaning between each key of the keyboard with the alcohol-dipped cotton swab. Use a new cotton swab whenever necessary. Slightly tip up one side of the laptop so dust will move from under the keys to the crevices so you can clean. Blow compressed air into the keyboard again as you did in Step 1 of Section 2. Reconnect the computer to the power and check to see if the issue is resolved. Insert the flat edge of a flat-blade precision screwdriver under a keyboard key and gently pry it up and off. Remember where the keys go, so you can easily replace them. Remove three keys at a time and clean with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Replace the keys and remove the next three. Do this until the entire keyboard has been cleaned. Disconnect the laptop from the power outlet and remove the battery again. Turn the computer so the rear is facing you. Remove the screws that hold the plastic hinges in place. Insert a small flat-blade precision screwdriver in the plastic hinge seam and pry the hinges up. Turn the computer back face forward and open the screen as far back as it will go. Continue lifting the plastic hinge and power plate until it comes off. Remove the screws you see holding the keyboard with a precision Phillips screwdriver. Blow compressed air under the keyboard. Lift the cable connector levers slightly and remove the data cable. Clean the cable pins with an alcohol-dipped cotton swab. Replace everything, power on the computer and try the keyboard again to see if the issue is resolved. b> Keyboard Replacement b> Connect an external keyboard to the USB port on the laptop and verify its working condition. Disconnect the external keyboard and verify that the keys on the laptop are still inoperable. Disconnect the laptop from the power outlet and remove the battery. Remove the laptop keyboard as you did in Step 3 of Section 2 by removing the plastic hinge and power button plate, the keyboard screws and disconnecting the data cable from the motherboard connector. Replace the keyboard with a new laptop keyboard for your laptop make and model.

Keyboard on Inspiron Mini 10 is not working right. Had chocolate spilled on it. How do I clean it.

Because laptops are portable, people tend to eat and drink over them. They lay the laptops on soiled surfaces and stuff them in dirty book bags. With all of the wear, tear and abuse that a laptop sustains, it's no wonder that the keyboard can become quite dirty. When a keyboard becomes dirty, often times the actual keys won't work. It is commonplace to find dirt, debris and food under the keys of a laptop computer. This causes the keys to not engage properly, rendering them useless.

1.Run a duster over the keys of your Dell laptop. This will remove any dust or small bits of debris that are causing your laptop keys to get stuck and not work. Test your keys once you have dusted them.

2.Spray the laptop keyboard with condensed air. Hold the air nozzle (you will often insert a small plastic tube into the nozzle) about 4 inches from the keyboard. Spray liberally, and use a back-and-forth motion while you work. This will remove most pieces of debris that may be stuck under the keys. Test the keys to see if they now work.

3.Place the tip of your flat-head screwdriver underneath the right-hand side of the key that is not working. Lift up gently and the key will pop off.

4.Dip the tip of your Q-tip into the rubbing alcohol and rub around the area where the key meets the keyboard. This will remove any final bits of dirt and debris. Allow the area to air dry. Repeat on as many keys as needed.

5.Place the loose key directly over the space where it belongs. Note the small piece of rubber. Hold the center of the key directly above the rubber piece and press down. When you hear a small clicking sound, the key is secure.

Some of my function keys dont work when i use them

Generally, most keyboards should work just fine when plugged in. Often if a keyboard has multimedia keys these may not work until driver software is installed to let the keyboard use them.
With laptop keyboards sometimes dust or other material may get under them causing keys to not function correctly. Compressed air can blow out debris if this is the case. Just read the instructions
on the compressed air before using it to keep from damaging componnents.

Some buttons dosent work at all,and some are like pushed-hold "rrrrrrrrrrr". it is a k52f i5 430m,aquired in juanary this year,i am writing using the virtual console.......any sugesrions pls?!

It sounds like you may have dirt/dust/crumbs trapped under your keys. The keyboards on Asus notebooks seem particularly prone to this problem. Turn the computer off and then hold it, while open, so the keyboard is upside down, shake very gently, and tap lightly on the sides. This will help to dislodge any crud that has found its way under your keys. I use this particular solution on my own Asus notebook when I have keyboard problems. Additionally, you could purchase a canister of compressed air, one with the long straw nozzle attachment, and use that to dislodge and remove debris from under the keys.

Bought a new asus n53jq laptop... removed a lot of bloatware.. running cleaner now and just how i like save for one thing: the top hot keys for changing performance profile (entertainment/powersave/high...

When you were uninstalling the extra software components you might've uninstalled a keyboard driver that allowed the laptop to recognize those keys. To re-download your drivers and utilities do the following:

  1. Go to the asus site for your laptop model: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6afhPttZtPFCOfXG
  2. Go to the "Download" tab
  3. Select your OS
  4. Under Utilities find the driver uninstalled and download it (this might take some trial and error, i'd suggest trying "ASUS FancyStart" utility or "LifeFrame 3 Utility" under the "Utilities" category).
  5. Install the downloaded software.
Hope this was of use!

My keyboard automatically typing letter z and /////////... continuously even without pressing my keyboard. how can i solve this problem? thanks..

One of two things are happening. Either your keys are stuck due to debris and/or dust on your keyboard or someone has created "hot keys" possibly as a joke and they are typing it. Get a coin and insert it under the key and pull upwards. Keys pop on and off the keyboard. It will not hurt it. Remove both keys and check for dirt and dust under them. If this is not the problem then you have hot keys set. In order to walk you through disengaging them I would need to know your operating system and if removing and cleaning the keys worked first. Please let me know this by going back to your original question posted on fixya and using the comment or reply button.

1 on the keyboard is stuck, can you help? Whenever I try to use my eee laptop for anything that requires typing, it runs itself off with 111111111 Please advise!

This could be due to the keys area being dirty and sticky. Make sure your laptop is powered off and disconnected from power then gently remove the "1" key by using a house key or paper clip. Be sure to get underneath the "1" key and pull up until the key pops off. With the "1" key removed, clean the area under the key with a lint-free cloth. Replace key when finished.
