ND error, pump runs, but sounds rough, took pump apart and found nothing in the pump or pipe.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2011

I had the pump running and water in the tub, but I checked the drain and there wasn't any water coming out. The pump sound like there was no water at the pump. I don't know if there is anything between the tub and pump, or if it has to be spinning to drain. I wired the motor to verify that it runs.

There is always water in the tub when I receive the error. At one point while troubleshooting, the pump was running, but no water was going out the drain. I have verified that the pump works. Will the tub spin while draining

If the motor is running but there is no water coming through, it would suggest the pump impellor blades are compromised. It's quite posible that the shaft that drives the blades has snapped. Is it possible to open the pump housing and rotate the blades manually whilst watching the motor to see if it moves? If one moves without the other, then its a new pump I'm afraid. WARNING! Do NOT attempt to do this with the motor connected to the electricity supply.

I feel you have a stuck pressure switch. If the wash tub is empty the No Drain error ND is false the pressure switch contacts are failing to open.

Go to that forum and I will help you get your machine back in service. If you dont have the Service Manual you can get it from the Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW 5 post down in that forum.....D*ick

You have a the Drain Sump Cap at the tub followed by 10" to 12" rubber hose to the input of the drain pump. There could be a clog at the impeller input, the Impeller could be shattered you hear it turn on and run to the drain pump. There could be a clog in the discharge hose.

The drain pump is is located on the right rear side of the machine. I have a pic somewhere on this forum. But this is not a very good forum for DIY folks. I can't find old post.

I'm at work right now. Go to the above forum I list above and you see a FAV6800A recent issue where I helped an owner with an issue and I have a two pics that show you the location of the Drain Pump. If you don't have the service manual you can get it from that site.

I can't post a direct link to the site just Google the above link and look for FAV6800A issue I believe labeled Maytag Neptune freeze up..

Get the SM and we can turn on the drain pump in service mode and troubleshoot. I think you could have a issue like the impeller free wheeling on the motor shaft or a shattered impeller maybe some coins got past the Sump Cap........D*ick

Nd error code, what does this mean

ND stands for No Drain.
It means that either your drain is plugged, the piping inside your washer to the drain pump is plugged, your pump is damaged, your control panel is damaged or a combination of the above.
If you can hear your drain pump operating, you should check for blocked piping. If you have water in the washer, unhook your washer hose from the back of the washer and lower down to the floor to see if water drains from your washer. If little water runs out there is a good chance that the hoses inside your washer are plugged with something. If water runs out freely, then there is a problem with your pump that will not allow it to pump water up to your drain hookup.

Nd error Washer will not drain. Had this problem before and removed coins from the pump all worked well. Now however there is nothing lodged in the pump and it will not drain.

get something to catch water in, then disconnect the outlet pipe and hold it as low as possible to the floor if water drains out, the pipe should be clear of any blockages. if it is re,connect the pipe...next turn the washer on and put it on empty cycle if you can hear the pump motor running and ,still does not empty the pump is probably damaged,if it is you will have yo have it checked out by the repair man

Error: nd Water won't drain; Sounds possibly like motor on pump may not be working.

This washer uses an electric pump. Sometimes objects get into the pump. Take it apart and look for objects.

I have a kenmore HE2plus washer and recently moved it into my apartment. The managers took away their washer from my apartment and I saw when they left a hooked pipe on the end of their washer. My washer...

"F21" is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1.First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
2.Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
3.Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
4.Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

Will not spin just hums error code nd

ND - no drain. Mine JUST DID THAT an hour ago. Wouldn't unlock the door, wouldn't drain, it just hummed. I'm saving money for a trip to florida in two weeks, and I saw our family vacation going down in flames in a hurry. So, I read up, and got brave.

Have a mop and shop vac on hand and ready.

I unplugged it, then removed the access panel on back - two screws, phillips head.

You'll see a grey drain hose connected to a pump, and from the pump to the washer itself, a black hose. Both should have spring clamps on them. Just pinch and voila, they get loose, slide them aside and pull each hose, look for obstructions. Here's why you need the shop vac. All the water in the washer will come out those hoses.

Mine had no obstructions anywhere in either hose. So, I hooked the hoses back up, and tried again. The pump those hoses are hooked to just kept clicking, no drain.

I decided to get crazy and pulled the pump out since it sounded just like when something gets hung in our pool pump's impeller.

There are three bolts there. They take a 1/2" socket. There is a set of wires that plug into it. Unplug those, be careful not to let the end flop down into any water that gushed out earlier.

Still saw no obstructions, and so, I took the pump apart. Three phillips head screws are all that hold the two halves together.

When the pump came apart, out falls a grey Lego block. One of those really flat ones. It was chewed up and roughed up by the impeller. That was what had it hung up.

So. If you've gone so far as to have to take the pump apart, and hopefully found whatever is hung in it, just follow the directions in reverse and put it back together. Once all together and plugged back in (be sure you're not standing in water when you plug it in by the way!) you may want to run the load (or the empty washer if you've pulled all the soggy clothes out) on a rinse and spin only cycle, just to make sure it works.

If it doesn't? It may be time to call a service guy in.
