We have an old Riccar 551 sewing machine and our son pulled out the thread so we no longer know how to thread it through. Does someone have a manual or threading diagram?
Thanks,
Nathan

You may be better off going to google and search "riccar 2910 manual" That way you can follow their detail dorections rather then someone elses and it confuse you. Usually the PDF versions have pictures with it :-)
HI
Try finding a threading diagram in a manual for another riccar machine here. http://www.riccar.com/help/manuals/
I couldn't see a manual here for the Riccar Reliant 57 but there are ones for the RL570 etc.
Most machines by the same brand thread in the same way.
Hope this helps!
Have you tried the Riccar site? http://www.riccar.com/help/manuals/
I couldn't find one for your specific model number.
Have a look at a few of the manuals with similar model numbers. Or try to find a manual that most closely resembles your machine.
Usually sewing machines by the same brand are very similar and thread the same way etc.
Hope this helps!

If your model number isn't listed try looking for a similar model or the number nearest to your machine.

Hiya, the threading for this machine is pretty standard so you won't be going wrong there. Have you used a sewing machine before? The tension dial (on the extreme left) should be set at 5. The other dial to your left should be on blue zigzag with orange broken line. The dial on the right should be set at 0 and the bottom one on 2 - 3. I've been looking for a manual for this machine as I inherited this one. It took me ages to suss straight sewing out. Another thought is take it to a repairer and ask for a quote. Good luck.
Glancing through the manuals at Riccar's website I do not find a model 440, though there are models 404, 410 and 414. One of those manuals is likely close enough. While it could be a tension problem, breaking thread is usually a result of a damaged or incorrectly placed needle. Also, if you are using old thread, it may no longer have the strength necessary. The first thing to do is replace the needle with a fresh one, making sure that the flat side is to the rear of the machine, and that the needle is fully inserted. It's also a good idea to remove the feed dog cover plate and remove any buildup of lint. Also remove any lint that may be in the area around the bobbin case and hook. Here is a link to the Riccar site where manuals can be downloaded: http://www.riccar.com/help/manuals/ Please let me know how this goes, I think we can get you sewing without taking the machine in for service.
