Possible fault with your timer controller unit processor board. In many cases insects can cause secretion and so the clock circuit can malfunction. remove the unit and use a air cleaning. heat the board if there is presence of moisture.
you have a bad magnetron . that is the heating source . the part is not cheap. go to sears parts direct and check out the price b4 you have someone check it.
Ge Spacemaker comes on ok but after a few seconds the noise level goes up significantly and it does not heat. It keeps running until the time runs out but it doesn't heat.
With the symptoms you
have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier
diode or a bad magnetron.
The diode is a fairly
cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.
If you or someone you
know
decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Here are some links you
or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety
warnings first:
the dimming of the light indicates a big amount of current being drawn by the magnetron. can you see sparks inside the oven?..it looks like the magnetron is shorting out with the ground. what makes it short to ground could be in the wave guide cover...look for some dark spots or accumulation of carbon from old food residue which becomes carbonized due to repeated heating. carbon is a conductive material that shorts the magnetron to ground.
i hope i was able to help
