Question about Dell Inspiron 1720 Notebook

1 Answer

This is similar to my problem I think,? The Dell logo keeps coming up on screen and a white status bar below completes, screen goes blank and then Dell logo comes up again and the whole process repeats. what does "first try loading default value in your bios" mean?

Load dell diagnostics and check your hard drive, one of the options when the dell logo is on the screen.

Starting problem

Immediately after seeing the Dell logo, keep tapping the 'F8' key,
until you see a "menu" (white text over a black background)
giving "startup" options for Windows XP.

Select "Safe Mode" and see if you can start in that mode.
Then, use "System Restore" to go "back" in time, to the most-recent checkpoint (date/time) where your computer _DID_ work.

Restore to that point, and restart.

The dell logo flashes then the screen goes blank. The hard drive keep flashing like the laptop is booting up okay it is a xps m140 and has vista home as a o/s

After the logo flashes, press F8, repeatedly, until a white-over-black "boot menu" is displayed. Choose "Safe Mode", to see if this "minimal" version of Windows will startup successfully.

My screen goes blank immediately after initial DELL startup image

You can either try to reset the BIOS, or have the restore cd fix it for you. By the way, what does the message say?

Display not working properly

You should be able to plug in an external (Desktop type) monitor . Look for a connector on the side or back of the laptop. If the external monitor works, you have pretty much diagnosed that you have a LCD problem.
