My Toro mower won't start. The cord will not allow me to pull it out all the way. It seems to be caught on something.

Disassemble the starting mechanism and remove the snag in the line that is preventing you from pulling cord all the way out. Till you do that, you will be pounding salt.

Suddenly cut out whilst mowing the lawn. now wont start, pull cord stiff to pull

Something just like this happened earlier this year with my pressure washer. This is what I did to fix it and now it runs great. Check the oil. If it's black or feels the least bit tacky, drain a pint or two of the oil out and re-add that amount of Marvel Mystery Oil. Now, attempt to pull the cord all the way out, but slowly at first. It should get easier to pull after about 5 pulls. If the mower restarts, let it run for 10 minutes until the Mystery Oil is hot and has cycled around inside the engine. Then drain that oil and refill it with a quality brand of oil. To top it off, either clean or replace the air filter, and put a shotglass of Lucas gas & injector cleaner into the mower's full gas tank. I also do this to my lawnmower and weedeater. It works wonders. BTW...If you're unable to turn the engine over by pulling the cord, remove the spark plug and tilt the mower up, so you can turn the blade easily by hand (use gloves). BUT FIRST MAKE SURE THAT SPARK PLUG IS REMOVED. REMEMBER... SAFETY FIRST! Let us know if this helped you any.

Ran last year, won't start this year. Changed fuel and replaced spark plug. Checked spark and attempted to start with battery and tried with pull cord but no start. pulled plug and it had fuel on it so...

It might have tipped over on its side. Look at the air filter, if you see oil or gas on the filter then you might have to remove and clean the carburetor. I would start by cleaning/replacing the air filter and trying it again. If its getting fuel and the spark plug works then the only other side of the fire triangle is air.

It wont start

First, make sure that the gas mixture is correct (gas and oil mixed in the right proportion). Next, press the primer bulb 3-4 times, turn the choke lever on to Full Choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine seems like to wants to start, but dies. Next, switch the choke lever to Half Choke and start the gas trimmer, giving it gas by pulling on the trigger. Once it has warmed up fully, you may be able to reduce the Half Choke to No Choke, although my 20+ years of experience with dozens and dozens of models tells me that many trimmers run better, although smoking slightly, when you keep them at Half Choke. One last tip, when pulling the cord, try pushing the trimmer away from you with the opposite hand at the exact same time that you are pulling the starter cord--the equal and opposite push-pull technique may sound like something from karate (and it is, in a way), but it is really helpful when trying to start trimmers. Best of luck, Bill

PS: Check you owner's manual (at home or online) for the proper gas/oil mixture. Empty any old gas out and replace the spark plug, if required.

Unable to pull starter cord at all

pour some gas/oil mixture down sparkplug hole and let it soak and see if the rings are carbon blocked

Will not start - brand new

i bought a new dirtbike as a kid n same thing.it turned out ,it needed to be a synthedic oil in the mix.try seeing for spark to begin with by putting sparkplug in the wire n touching diode to the engine block while pulling the cord.thats a good starting point to diagnosing your problem.maybe try warming it up in the house then try starting it with no choke needed.the saws i ve used needed you to give it throttle after you pull,n no throttle with choke.
