Hi, I am not sure on this one (as i'm based in the uk) but it sounds like your cable box (if its seperate to the tv) has gone into 4:3 screen mode if you can get into the menu of the cable box perhaps you can change the setting back to16:9 widescreen or perhaps there is a button on the remote control for changing the screen view.

If not perhaps theres a setting in the tv's picture menu where 4:3 mode is set instead of Auto or 16:9

Sorry I can't be of more help and hope this solves your issue.

42 INCH LCD HD BLANK SCREEN ON BOTH SIDE ON ABOUT 20 INCH AVABILITY. HOW DO I FIX IT.

Hello:
First check the aspect ration in the menu, you also have a format button on the remote that does the same function, or your cable remote. If all is ok with remote and menu, then you might considering replacing the main board as the scaleing Chipo may be bad. Check to make sure picture size is set to full and not 4:9.

How do I adjust the picture to fill the screen

i was having problems in the tv menu getting full screen. no matter what i did there was two black bars on each side of the screen. i have att u verse so i went into the cable menu to options. In the options tab i went down to system options then to aspect ratio. in this screen you get a few options like 4:3 standard definition and 1080i on high def screen. I chose 1080i high def and then played with the zoom function on my remote and the problem was solved. hope this helps

Philips 32pt television screen format off center, to the left

For me it was the cable box settings...

I'm not a tech person, so take this for what its worth. I had the same problem with my Vizio and my Time Warner Cable HD/DVR box using the HDMI cord connection. HD channels were always fine, and non HD channels were fine until I went to an HD channel and back. When switching back, the non-HD channels would be shifted to the left as you describe. After much back and forth with both Vizio and Time Warner (each saying its caused by the other), I stumbled across the following fix...

I went into the cable box (scientific atlanta 8300) "settings", under "display," under "output resolution." There was a list including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and "auto select." I unchecked both 480 options and left 720 and 1080 checked. Problem solved. The other "Display" menu settings are as follows: Picture Size = Stretch, Aspect Ratio = 16x9.

Hope this helps.

Picture shifts to left

I had the offset left issue for non-HD channels with my Panasonic 42" plasma, using Comcast HD cable box. Went into the configuration menu (to get there with the newer Comcast boxes, you have to turn the box off, then hit the menu button on the box immediately after). You will see on the menu a resolution (probably says 1080i), then below it a "4:3 override". Our said 480i. When I changed it to "none", so that it stayed 1080i, it worked! It also works by selecting 480p, but then the picture is stretched.
