Goodmans LD3755HD Picture Problems

We've had the above TV for a year and no problems but last night the picture started getting 'grainy' and then broken coloured lines appeared over the programme and then eventual the picture disappeared completely and various coloured lines and blocks appeared.
I have disconnected the power, etc and when re-turning the TV on it is ok for a few minutes then the problems start again.

Please can you help? This

There is no problem with the signal source. I need advice to locate the component area e.g. video processing chip, condensors etc.

  • tomchik Jul 29, 2008

I have changed the main board and the power supply and the same fault exists. The picture is poor from all sources and after 30 mins it breaks up into two distorted pictures with cloured lines and bars.

Filter circuits are OK. Output from main board is fine.

Let me give you Technical tip. Find "IF Block" in TV, it would be near Tuner, Open the IF Block and resold it with solder iron. make sure not to make bridges between solder points. Reason of problem in your TV is .."acostic tuning frequency drift". I dont know, how to clear my point. But I am sure, this will solve your TV's problem. Good luck.

Hi,

Pls try using the TV with pure video signal only such as a DVD or even an old VCR. If the problem persist with the DVD, then yes it could be the video processor, if not than chances are it is the built-in tuner of the TV (most likely). Since the tuner block is a single assy, then it would be relatively easy to identify and replace. Often, it would look something like below.

If on the other hand, it is the video processor, then your best would be to get hold of a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings if you are considering a do-it-yourself repair.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

for cms voodoo, change your power module.
for tomchik, check your input voltage for voltage drop or fluctuation, if any employ voltage stabilizer, then change your power module. make sure that there is enough ventilation around your tv.
for bananahead , go and change your backlight inverter

Can anyone tell me why all of my BBC digital channels have no signal at night or the early morning, but work again during the day!? thanks

Check the signal strength. If the signal strength is weak, this can happen to digital channels. For analogue channels, the fault due to weak signal will be a grainy picture.

I cannot tune my goodmans gtvl19w17hd tv

If you have sound, then your tv doesn't need tuning. Shine a bright light onto the screen, can you see a very dim picture? If so, your backlight has stopped working. This is almost always due to the inverters failing and can be repaired.

No picture on my 62" DLP Mitsubishi

I am not sure what the problem is, but usually if a lamp is bad, the other 2 lamps will still function. Since you are getting no picture at all, I am thinking it is a circuit board problem. TV electronics are expected to last 3-5 years. After that, many components will start to go out one by one. If you have your tv repaired, I would replace the whole circuit boards instead of just the bad component. The power board is the #1 board I would replace 1st. This is the most stressed board and will cause most of your tv problems.
