Hp 2840 was printing light in black, so I replaced the cartridge, did a clean run print from tray 1 & now it only prints 1/2 a page from top to bottom. I shook cartridge installed again turned the printer on and off and still does this. I tried a color print, and a long magenta thread going down the page is all I receive. Everthing was going 100% w/color until I install the new black cartridge What is wrong???

Cartridge faulty...
Two ways you can find out the faulty cartridge.
1. Remove each cartridge, just flip the drum shutter & chk for any toner bands appears on drum surface.. if found replace that cartridge..
2. Go to the paint. create four colored page as shown, print & verify which colored print mixed with bads.. replace that cartrdige.. ">

It could be a fuser problem.
Put paper in the manual feed tray. Print a few pages. As the paper gets
1/2 way into the printer, open the cover. Look down at the paper in the printer.
If it has 2 thin black lines, the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. If there are no lines the fuser is probably bad.

Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the
top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper.
If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.

Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

Print a printer self-test by holding the power button down with a pencil and opening and closing the top cover four times.
Check the nozzle self-test pattern in the self-test print out. If one or more of the solid rectangular areas are missing, an electrical contact problem may be present.
Remove and then reinsert the print cartridge(s) into the printer.
Print the document.
If the problem persists, follow the steps listed above for cleaning the print cartridges and print cartridge cradle.
Try printing again. If the problem continues, replace the print cartridges.

Black is used on all prints. Did you pull the tape on the new cartridge?

1. Reinstall print cartridge.
2. Power cycle device.
3. If the problem is not solved, replace the cartridge. NOTE: The software CD-ROM that came with the HP Color LaserJet 2820/2830/2840 all-one includes an animated tutorial that shows how to replace the print cartridges.
   1. Remove any media from the ADF, and then push the scanner-release button to open the scanner assembly.
   2. Open the cartridge door.
   3. Make sure that the correct print-cartridge slot is in the access position.
      • If the correct print-cartridge slot is not in the access position, close the top cover and the scanner assembly, and then press ROTATE CAROUSEL until the correct print-cartridge slot is in the correct position. Pinch together the two large blue tabs on the first cartridge, and then lift the cartridge straight up to remove it from the carousel.
   4. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, remove the orange cover from the print cartridge, and then pull the orange tab straight out to remove the sealing tape.
   5. Squeeze the blue release levers on the print cartridge, holding it with the roller facing you. Lower the cartridge straight down into the carousel until it is firmly in place.
      • To replace another cartridge, close the top cover and the scanner assembly, press ROTATE CAROUSEL , and then repeat the previous steps. NOTE: If a black print cartridge was replaced, then the device prompts to have a cleaning page ran, unless the device page count is less than 100 pages.
   6. Close the top cover, and then close the scanner assembly.

To replace the print cartridges Perform the following steps to replace the print cartridges:

1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on. CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for changing. The HP All-in-One can get damaged if the print cartridges are not docked safely when trying to remove them.
2. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One. Figure 1: Opening the print cartridge door
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. If replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. 4. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.
   NOTE: Remove the black print cartridge to install the photo or gray photo print cartridge, and store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic container.
5. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, and carefully remove the black plastic tape by using the pink pull tab Figure 3: Removing the new print cartridge from its packaging 1 - Copper-colored contacts 2 - Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 - Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do not re-tape the print cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Figure 4: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts
6. Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into the empty cartridge slot. Make sure to push the print cartridge firmly until it snaps into place. If installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot. If installing a black, photo, or gray photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot. 7. Close the print cartridge door. Figure 6: Closing the print cartridge door. HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment page if a new print cartridge is installed.
8. When prompted, ensure plain white paper is loaded in the input tray, and then press OK .
9. The HP All-in-One prints a test page, aligns the print head, and calibrates the printer. Recycle or discard the page. A success or failure message appears.
   NOTE: If colored paper is loaded in the input tray when aligning the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.If the alignment fails again, you might have a defective sensor or print cartridge. Plug in the power cable and turn on the printer. Cleaning the fuserback to top of page Run the printer cleaning page to keep the fuser free of toner and paper particles that can sometimes accumulate. Accumulation of toner and particles can cause specks to appear on the front or back side of print jobs. To ensure optimum print quality, HP recommends using the cleaning page every time that the print cartridge is replaced or on an automatic pre-established interval. The cleaning procedure takes about 2.5 minutes to complete. A message (either CREATING CLEANING PAGE or CLEANING) appears on the printer control panel display while the cleaning is taking place. NOTE: Use plain paper to print the cleaning page. Please note that this is a two-step process. First print out the cleaning page using the following directions, then follow the directions on the cleaning page itself to reinsert it back into the printer to perform the cleaning.
