I have a Remington kerosene heater model HH-45_KFA. When I plug it in, its runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts off. If I let it sit about a minute, it will fire up immediatley but again shut down shortly after. Thanks

The first question is are you using the correct fuel for it? Those heaters are designed to burn a specific type of kerosene, (1-K). The wrong or old kerosene can give off a rotten egg smell especially if the heater has been stood unused for a while. Diesel will give you a smokey, sooty burn and anything else is just dangerous.
Try emptying the tank and putting in new and fresh kerosene. When you do this it will stink for a few minutes but that should clear as it is the little bit of fuel between the tank and the burner.

check and see if the heater has a high temperature limit switch. if it does it will shut the machine off until it cools down.. just replace it with a new one.

This sounds like you will need to replace the thermostat!
