When I turn on my desktop computer, the mouse and keyboard do not work so I cannot even enter my password to log onto the desktop.

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things
working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer
make sure the leads are securely seated and are not bad/faulty
hope this helps
make sure you have the correct keyboard and mouse selected
you might have to uninstall your keyboard and mouse then restart your computer and reinstall them make sure that you have there drivers backed up on a disk before uninstalling them
click start control panel, keyboard select hardware you will see which keyboard it is this will also apply to your mouse
also select properties, general you will have options to troubleshoot, driver roll back uninstall ,update driver
or click start control panel administrive tools computer managent device manager scroll to keyboard you could see a yellow question mark? right click to install drivers

For my asrock m266a motherboard, when i clean install win xp OS and at halfway finished installing it the pc just hangs or stops. what could be the problem?

It is most likely an issue with the hard drive or at least that is the easiest and cheapest thing to test first. I would say connect it to another PC either directly or via a USB adapter and run a utility like check disk and then try it again.

Also make sure you don't have any thing connected to the computer you don't need: disconnect printers, cameras, thumb drives, remove TV cards etc. That extra stuff can only cause problems during an install. You just want the monitor keyboard and mouse and that's it in other words.

Asrock 845GV (P4I45GV) Motherboard

Go to start, control panel, administrative options, computer management, device manager. Look for the yellow question mark with your sound card. Right click, update or install driver. Make sure you allow windows to look online for the drivers it needs to install them. Good luck.

Power supply

There wouldn't be anything from the PSU giving power to your keyboard and mouse. The mobo handles that unless your giving your mobo the wrong amount it needs which might be why your P2P and USB arn't working. Although it is odd that your mouse isn't working with P2P as that requires less power.

Installation Problems

two main reasons, first if your operating system is win98 you may need to install the cd driver for that mouse. in case your operating sytem is winxp then the problem is your mouse you need to return for the warranty

Blank screen after xp welcome screen no power to keyboard

Ok, with your current set up, what beeps are you getting? Also, while you have a blank desktop, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and you'll have Task Manager come up, click File and then New Task and type in "explorer" without quotes and hit enter. That should restore your desktop. Let me know how it goes.
