when powered on the system powers up properly and the HDD and CPU are running fine but there is no display on the screen and is black,
first try the this step, try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port (generally in blue color) and see if you have a Display on the external monitor.
the black screen generally means that either the Display section is not getting power or the invertor board is damaged and this needs professional help in fixing / replacing it.
sounds to me like a broken lcd screen. Check if it works on external monitor, if it does the problem is your screen. If it is the same on an external monitor then the fault is with the onboard graphics card. This should be fixed under warranty
You have eliminated the CPU/Video card as a problem so you should try changing the video cable.
There is a good chance that the cable is bad if the multi-colored lines you are describing is the "test pattern". So swap out the cable and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't fix the problem and the monitor won't work with another CPU, it looks like you are going to need a new monitor.
Unfortunately it sounds like the "tab" welds on top of the lcd have stopped transferring the signal from the inverter board, plain english, you need a new lcd.
you could get an external monitor, (old pc monitor) and hook it to the 15 pin connector on the laptop. Use your laptop as a desktop,
If you can post the laptop specs or e-mail me I'llsee what I can do. [email protected]
Hi No otto,
On the bottom row of keys, you will see one marked Fn, in a different color. Hodl that and look at your top row of keys. Should be one with a laptop screen, and a monitor. The little graphics will be the same color as the Fn key. Tap that once, wait, see if the screen comes to life. Usually that key is set to choose "Just laptop screen, just external monitor, or both", with each tap.
Good luck,
